OK, I was just in a huge meeting for my first time with this supposed up and coming new technology company. It was a training session. And the entire session was about hustling people into coming into the company... sort of how like I was... Well.. At first I was like wow, this is awesome. There were like 60 people at the meeting... but it was at a Wendy's restaurant. On top of that I was told to pay either 500 for a basic package, and 1500 for the advance package. The difference is the basic gives you a 5 digit salary, and the advanced gives you a 6 digit salary. Your job is to call up your friends or strangers and make them do the same thing you're doing. But you're supposedly their boss, and make money off of them while they recruit people too. I deposited $100 because I found it sketchy. That's why I'm here. I need your actual thoughts on this because I am supposed to go back tomorrow for some more basic training. The director told me he's been in it for 6 years, and he looks like a successful man. He was wearing a $2000 Armani suit with a $1000 button/emblem/whatever. They emphasized about the guy who put 9K into AOL and how everyone thought he was crazy. And how he is making 15M a month now. I did some google searches and some people are claiming this is a pyramid scam. Can some of you please help me search and stop me from getting scammed if this is one. I saw a couple of young people there who were convincing.. saying they left their jobs because they are making like 2K a week. The reason I didn't think this was a scam was because there were 60 people in the meeting. All in business attire and they already supposedly paid the 1500. Was that all a show to fool me? I don't know what to do guys. They even showed me their product.. which is a broadband phone. But I don't know.... Help.

If its a too good to be true it often is...its a scam especially if they are asking for money up front to train you.

Is there such a thing as direct marketing when something much better is popping up in your face every five seconds? Of course not. The sole purpose of direct marketing is to create, produce and market your own unique products. Anyone knows it would be insanely stupid to work an MLM against any competition. Much less, being an ant in an elephant march that's gaining more elephants day by day. It's an insult to one's intelligence to even imply the possibility of making riches near minimum wage.

These people have been 'in business' for some 7+ years and avoiding recognition (from the law?) by changing names constantly and moving all over, but still they have been internet related all that time and there have been no loyal customers or reputable reviewers whatsoever touting the products. No money is coming in from that but they are tricked into buying it themselves like classic pyramid schemes described by the FTC. It's just common services that they have licensed from another company. I
followed it back to cognigen.com which has more services with a free rep signup. A perfect pyramid scheme product without spending anything. So the $390 is for a few boxes to get a jump start generating revenue? No. All of it is distributed up the pyramid. That $390 gives you no product to sell and make money from.

The 'business' is not on any MLM list because of the simple fact that it does not qualify as one. The 'product' will never even be at the bottom of the many VOIP review sites and is obviously just there to slip under the legal radar and get naive kids right out of high school to think it's legit.

Sadly most give up college, friends, future and everything they own to live with 50 others, working minimum wage, have no money and their only material possessions are some nice suits. They were very happy with a positive attitude though. I'll give them that."

i work with about 5 6 gay people and it's never any problems. if everybody looks at what you wrote you let your emotions get in front of your money. so the company is no scam. See People there is 1 thing if you go to the interview they tell you this is a INVESTMENT A LONG DOLLAR NOT GET RICH QUICK."

I love how you believed it enough to drop 100 bucks into it. I went to a meeting for one to shut a friend up it was part if citybank basically I forget the name now, pro something, same thing except they added selling insanely high loans to people as well as recruiting new people.

These things are see through, open your eyes when you go into something like that.

, but I just felt compelled to respond to this.

Why would you kill the "director" for something you did on your own? It was obviously a pyramid scam. Just from what they said it's clear as day.

1. They had a business meeting at a Wendy's, that right there would seem a little fishy to me. If you're making a 5 or 6 digit salary why would you go to Wendy's for a meeting?

2. Basic package and premium package? $500 or $1500? Seriously? How did this not give it away right then?

3. They don't call it a pyramid scam for nothing. You've got people at the top, and people below, and people below those people, etc, etc. It forms a pyramid. Correct me if I'm wrong but that seemed logical to me. Clicky...

4. They asked for your SSN, why the hell would they need your SSN for basic training?

Evil...pyramid schemes all work on the same formula....people will always hit up their close family, distant family, co-workers, neighbors, friends....and eventually their well runs dry. A very VERY small percentage of these people are high energy sales people..with enough gumption to aggressively go out and reel in new clients...these are the only ones who make money from this. And even then..it's a short career til you burn out.

There are all levels of pyramid schemes...from some like this..to ones that you may have heard of like Primerica, ..to the semi-pyramid sales such as a fairly well known high end vacuum cleaner.

Of course, because if you do and half manage to sell some old lady or almost dead person loans then you make some good money off of your friends work and the people above you make alot off it.

I think 1 reason a lot of people fall for primerica is because they dont make you pay anything right way, and then plus like you said its fronted under citigroup, so it may seem legit to people cuz citi is a real company, problem is its a real a hole company.

Exactly.....they hear Citi and all of a sudden it has this instant credibility. Citi and its child companies prey on joe consumer and their employees....unless you're an executive....they are an evil corporation.

luckily all i lost were some phone numbers, but don't do it. I just got done reading a testimony from someone who said almost in detail what happened to him and it was exactly the same thing that happened to me. i even found a lie in there they told me that there headquarters were in nyc and they were going to open a la office soon. In the testimony I read, they told him that there offices were on the west coast.
