Most bang for my cheap buck?

Post by weedancer »

Ok my computers factory everything and i have vista. :(

Anyways im looking to give it a kick in the but and im wondering what would be the best things i could do for cheap?

Options:

1) By more ram, only running 896mb (although it says a gig)

2) Replace vista with XP?

3) Just get a new video card? (read below for what im looking for)

Ok i would like to upgrade my video card and was wondering whats the best gaming card I could get for cheap????

Games I would like to play and look really pretty: WoW, CS:S, LOTR. and soon to be team fortress 2 :D

price range im looking at: $100-$150?

all the help i could get would be great!

I've been using a Dell running Vista with 2 gig of ram and it seems to like that amount. Definately more ram.

I assume it shows only 896 because you have onboard video.....I assume it's a PCIe slot.....you have plenty of options.

if your going to keep vista.. I suggest a BFG 8600GT...with Vista and this card you have access to DX10 games in the future plus its a great performing card for all around games.

Great performing? It looks like when DX10 titles hit it wont be able to keep up with the games.

well I didn't say distant future thats for sure.... even the 8800GTX within a years time might have problems keeping up.

Go for the 8800 GTS it's DX10 and it's about as good as the best of the DX9 cards you can buy. I paid £189 2 weeks ago and i'm amazed at what I got for my money. Consider it being DX10 compatible as a bonus.

No, I wouldn't go with the GTS.... feel free to ask a few guys here that got it such as KingOfFools and he will tell you that its a waste considering what you get for the GTX, but let me add in that the 9800's are due out in December if you can wait.
