David has a really good point about taking an interest in a child's life. There is something to be said about maturing by experience and passing that onto the children you love. I am eternally grateful to my parents for loving me enough to set guidelines, teach me spiritual things, how to respect others and on and on. I've seen kids that "find their own way" and it's often a result of making some really bad decisions and learning the hard way. It may not have been necessary if the parents had taken the time to set up a foundation of love, honor and respect. I was never forced to "conform" to a religious group rather I enjoyed church activities.

I am not disputing the positive ethical influence that the major American religions have had on society. In fact I applaud them for having such a widespread beneficial effect on American ethics.

Religious organization does conform to a certain set of beliefs and ideas. I know the word conform can rub people the wrong way because of its abuse. But an organized religion would not be much of a religion if it did not impress it's ideology on to it followers. Also a religion would not have lasted very long if it did not pass this same ideology on to future generations. I do not see this as a problem but I do feel that most religious groups do not attempt to enlighten the fact that their beliefs are in fact just beliefs. This is where I feel organized religion hinders spiritual growth.

so yeah, how can kids from religiouse homes be more well behaved if they're stripping and drinking with cops?

if they were not relgious and well behaved, they'd be stripping and drinking with the local drug dealers.

In this city, sometimes the cops ARE the drug dealers...the local county sheriff even did federal time for extortion and racketeering. The city is hurting so badly for cops because no one local is qualified, drug arrests, domestic violence, felony convictions
