Funny that all peeps in this thread have thousands of posts on Speedguide.net (sans Mad Doc) and it hasnt been mentioned as a hobby gone obsessive...

WOW, what did you get? A PC/rotary & pads, etc. ? I dropped about $400 for waxes, & supplies myself, since Nov.. it's just now spring!

I believe thats a limit from MS's FDISK.

FAT32 should be able to support that.

My obsession borders on suicidal.

After mutiple accidents, five major orthopedic surgeries, 18 pieces of hardware put in my body, a bone graft with a plate and four screws in my neck I'm lucky to open my eyes in the morning.

I'll let go of the throttle when my heart stops beating.

I just received a sealed LP of Gale McCormick's "Flesh and Blood". This is supposed to be her best solo album.

I've cleaned and I'm about to digitize this. 24 bit 96 kHz files and then burned to DVD.

My wife thinks I'm nuts......

So who's Gayle McCormick? You older members and those who like classic rock radio may remember a song by a group called Smith. "Baby It's You". That voice on the song is Gayle McCormick.

Indy, I'm using Adobe Audition. I use a software declicker that I found through Steve Hoffmans' forums. Most of what I digitize, I don't need much for declicking as the albums are in great condition. Anyway, I still declick them. The software allows you to listen to what's being removed which is important as I don't want to remove any music. It works like a champ. Sometimes I have to spend a lot of time with the files but for the most part, it's a two part process for declicking. I'll explain in a bit.

Roundeye, I'm using a Bellari tube preamp I found used. Some think it's killer and those with a lot of money don't think it's very good. Unfortunately I don't have a grand to spend on a turntable preamp and doubt I would anyway. So it does have the RIAA equalization curve for LP's built in.

After recording the file, I first declick it. The file isn't very loud though. A fault of the 192 soundcard and a reluctance by myself to crank the preamp to 10.

So in Adobe Auditon, I amplify the signal to a -4 to -3 on the loudest parts and declick again since some of the more quieter noise gets amplified. The files turn out great! I did a promo copy of Smiths, A Group Called Smith and afaic, it's better sounding than an import CD I have of it. (Crappy CD to begin with.)

The software I'm using for the DVD's is Audio DVD Creator It works like a champ. I can have menus for each album I get on the disk as well as song titles and so forth. Including pics of the albums or whatever you'd like for the screen. Plus.....a sound file in 24 bit depth.....

It will even allow you to upsample CD's to 24 bit. A pretty cool feature for some CD's.

Another cool thing, Indy. I can make FLAC files out of them 24 bit wavs.

Ahh yes..speaking of computers, there are 6 in this corner, two monitors, two kvm switches, two keyboards, with a spare under the desk, 4 cans of air, two hundred packs of blank cd's, 50 regular cd cases, and 50 slimline, blank labels of all sorts...probably enough to supply half the town, and of course the printer.

Am I obsessive?? Nahhh!

I used to collect too.

I was on Ebay the other day looking to see what I might get for some of them.

Issue two through 25 of Heavy Metal. I'd be lucking to get $40 to $50.

Savage Sword of Conan. The big black and whites....Sproadic but issue #1 through 15...maybe thirity...

Some very old Mad Magazines. Isses 20 and 21 I think. 3 or 4 bucks each...

Pretty much everything of the Furry Freak Bros series. Not worth much because there was never a printing date and so you don't know if it was original or reissue.

However most of my Van Bode stuff is worth a bit of cash.

I'll probably just toss the other stuff and watch the value quadruple in the next year.

5000 beads on one doll? Now why does that all of a sudden, make my eyes hurt?
