Newsgroup help

Post by SRF01 »

I signed up for newshosting.com and downloaded XNews.

But what i'm having trouble with is actually finding anything. I really only wanted to download tv shows to watch but I can't seem to find shows like 24, heroes, scrubs etc.

Anyone have any tips on searching for these shows?

just use newsleecher

it has a built in super search function. xnews is great for some things, but rather worthless for what you're trying to do.

Ok i've got newsleecher installed and connected to newsreader as well as newsleecher. I tired a supersearch but I get a general error stating Unable to connect to super search engine. Is it typical for it to go down or am I doing something wrong?

 use the http://v3.newzbin.com version. Better search function and you can set your search results to your usenet providers retention

Very nice guys. Those will it much easier to find my favorite shows.

I was using bittorrent but my provider(Rogers) has finally got around to blocking/limiting torrent traffic in my area.

I'm off to play around with those apps now. Thanks again guys. If you have any more tips for using newsgroups i'd appreciate them. I've never used newsgroups before.

My only suggestions would be to use a newsbin / newzbin combo. There really is nothing easier out there. You setup newsbin to autoload your .nzb's you download from newzbin, apply the "Global Folder Mode" option in newsbin and thats that. All your files are download to a folder named for the newsgroup they came from. No need to even get headers really. Only other things you need are quickpar and winrar and your golden. If you have any questions on the setup or anything just post here. The initial cost of newsbin pro is worth it imo. The guy that writes the software is always on the forum answering questions and fixing bugs. Best 30.00 I ever spent.

newsleecher now offers automatic par/rar support.

works like a charm too, no more hassles.

If you don't like newsleecher, try http://www.see-and-be.com/AutoUnpack/ that works great for your automatic par/rar needs.
