I have two PC's that were running Win98 SE OS because of legacy software that was installed that wouldn't run in a WinXP environment. I recently discovered this legacy software would run in a Win2000 SP4 environment so I upgraded both machines.
One machine is a P3 800mhz desktop and the other is a Dell Latitude CPiA 366mhz P2 laptop. Both machines had standby/suspend and hibernate power saving modes available with the Win98 SE OS.
After installing the Win2000 Pro SP4 OS, no power saving modes other than monitor and HDD turn-off exists on either PC. In addition, the Dell laptop has power saving suspend/standby modes that you can setup in the BIOS but these will NOT activate under Win2000 whatsoever.
I went to the the MS KB site and did some looking and from what I could gather, based on the tests they said to do, my laptop is an ACPI machine so APM wasn't installed. But that's all the explaination their KB articles would give me.
At this point I am not concerned with the P3 800 desktop system because I don't use it that much anyway. But I would like to use standby/suspend modes on my laptop. So what I was wondering was if anyone has ever run into this issue before and/or knows how to correct it (force enabling of suspend/standby modes)?
Thanks in advance.

I'd check to see that the CPi has the latest BIOS. Also Dell may have released power management software for Win2K for it....see what they have in the download section. Due to the speed of the processor..being an older model..not sure if they made anything on it Win2K compliant or not.
