cpu temp

The previous problem I've been having with my friends computer is the cpu temp. It was around 101 deg C before. I reseated the heatsink and got it down to 90 C.

But this is of course way too hot still. I'm using the Stock Heatsink/fan combo that comes with a Core 2 Duo.
It's running @ 1700rpm. Is this too low? How would I boost it? Is there a way?

If not, if i got this would it help reduce heat?

Theres something not right still with that heatsink if its 90C!

The stock heatsink should be good for like 45 or so.

I know! It's killing me. There's thermal paste, a side fan, and what looks to be a perfectly capable fan/heatsink.

The only thing I can think of trying is getting another PSU from my house and using it because I think the fan on it is more powerful.

For that temp the voltage needs to either be way too high or the heatsink still is not on right.

What should the voltage be set at?

I went in to change the CPU VCore through the BIOS, the lowest I could set it was 1.8 something. But when it was set to AUTO, it would set the VCore at 1.1 volts.

So when I changed it from auto to 1.8, it dramatically raised the CPU temp.
So i need to set it to 0.850 so it would drop, but the lowest I can set manually is 1.8

How can I lower it?

My friends 6600 runs at 1.3, I would figure yours to need 1.2 or so, if auto brings it to 1.1 and its stable thats great and i would then probably take out the mobo and look at the heatsink on it then, make sure its flush and not wigglying all around.

When it is set to AUTO, the temp is 90 deg C. Which isn't bueno

Would turning down the FSB help in any way? Can I even do that without damaging the CPU? If so, what values?

I'm just trying to think of ways to turn down the heat

Maybe your temp diode is broken. Have you touched the bottom sides of the heatsink to see if it's really that hot?

Is the current heatsink one with the little plastice push pins to lock it in the mobo holes?

Might not be mounting correctly with those stupid things. Maybe that 10 dollar heatsink is the way to go.

I don't know if you did this or not but if I were you i'd just leave the cpu volts at auto if it stays around 1.1...1.8 is seriously way too much lol.
