I could've done without being called a dumb **** over it. Treat me like the semi-knowledgeable person that I am for a change, and I won't have a problem admitting I'm wrong when I am. Treating me like garbage won;t help any.

Sly: How do you know it's the CPU Fan? Did you open it up and take a look, as we suggested (the stock intel heatsink should keep it cool enough to run without shutting down, so i'm wondering if the fan is dead and caked in dust or something)? Did you get another "over heat" message? Let us know please

Still trying to convince others a 775 CPU has pins on it? With some mysterious motherboard that has both pins for the 775 CPU contact pads...and holes for those mysterious pins on the CPU?

That's odd...I've been gone for the last 11 hours, this thread was still on top when I came back this morning, and I don't know how to stop. Wow, what genius did it take to come to that conclusion?

The fan was spinning but what else would cause the heat shutdown?

I am assuming the fan just isn't good enough to cool the chip right?

I don't have any other guesses unless someone else does

I don't know if this will help but I just had a computer doing the same thing as yours. It turned out it was my video card going bad. I had check out the cpu and the fan, Plus ran a check on my memory and board. It turned out my video card was shutting down when it heated up. Not saying this is you problem, But might be worth looking into . Goodluck hope you get it solved

Have you had the system long, was there dust to clean out?

Boot to the bios and leave it there for a few mins and check the temp for the cpu in health status. If thats in teh mid to low 30s then boot to windows.

Do you have a temp monitor program that came with the motherboard?

If not, grab systool or motherboard monitor and check the temp in windows

Also, while your looking at the temp, see how many RPM's your fan is doing. I believe most fans nowadays do about 5000 or so, so if its doing too much less than that you may need to replace it.

There was very little dust inside the computer because I have filters on the intake fans.

I'll check the temp in bios and in windows with systool to see what I get.

The RPM's should be on the same BIOS screen as the temperature.
