OK guess I've never done one of these..here's how boring my desktop is.

Window Blinds 5.1 part of the ObjectDesktop suite. You can find everything you need here. I'm running a seperate program called SysMetrix on the bottom left. It's fully customizable to suite an individuals needs. Butt loads of skins as well.
