Most Americans Support Anti-Terrorism Racial Profiling

Interesting, I myself support it. If there is an Arabic man in the airport security area, sweating profusely, looking around nervously, I absolutely support it.
The problem comes in when racist, power-hungry authorities start to use it to support their racist behavior. They are the ones that get these political groups against it.

"Most Americans expect a terrorist attack on the United States in the next few months and support the screening of people who look "Middle Eastern" at airports and train stations, a poll showed on Tuesday."
We're always expecting a terrorist attack in the next few months
I said no, but ask me again when theres a new administration.

I would never support such a ridiculous idea as racial profiling.
Suspicious characters come in many forms and I would never want our national attention focused so much on one minority group while some whacked out white guy gets away with another OKC bombing or the terrorists simply recruit some non-arabs to act out some of the finer details of their plans.
The only thing racial profiling is going to do is add more racial tension and fuel to the fire that we are already having a hard enough time putting out.
This world is filled with shady characters, there is no racial profiling scheme that could ever define the majority of those who seek to perform dark deeds. Yet here's another example of our society insisting to create a marketable label that the media can sell to the American public.
Man, we have way too many people in this country that just seem to line up to buy this BS by the buckets.

Look at it this way for a moment. If there is such a thing as "racial profiliing" then there is such a thing as "non-racial profiling".
Neither makes sense. If someone looks suspicious, search the bugger. What is the big deal here? Every person has rights when being suspected of a crime, regardless of race, color or creed.
I think maybe the question here would be if racial profiling is effective. If it is effective in deterring crime, why wouldn't we do it? Isn't that our goal?

Unfortunately, thats how profiling works. But you have to look at more than just race itself.
People will bitch about anything, but its a fact of life. If I was Indian, and all of a sudden Indians were going on shooting sprees everyday around the country, I would damn well expect some negative feedback. Like I said, its just how it works. You cant expect to crawl into a cave of killer bees and assume none of them will attack you.

they made my entire military unit take off our combat boots and uniform tops and go through security like everyone else. i think at some point this 'treat everyone the same' thing goes a little far. Yes, search the people most likely to be a threat the most, and seriously now.. do they really think im going to put a bomb in my combat boot, then fight for this country? so lame.

Racial profiling happens, regardless. If a white guy drives a nice car into Plainfield NJ at 2am and leaves roughly a half hour later, you can bet there are drug in his possession. If you happen by Bill Clinton's area of Manhatten and see some ladies dolled up like Porfirio at Carnevale, they might be courtesans.
The rub lies in disguise. It is not that difficult for a person of ME strain to pass for another ethnicity. Put aside that and the bill of rights, and you have a sound argument for staying the course.

You may not...but others may (most likely not). But think about a suicide bomber who gets into his enemies military. When it goes off a majority of the casualties will be military personel. A good way to wipe out new / replacement troops.Meggie wrote:they made my entire military unit take off our combat boots and uniform tops and go through security like everyone else. i think at some point this 'treat everyone the same' thing goes a little far. if thats the case theres a lot worse things he can do then blow up a plane carrying a couple dozen soldiers.*cho* wrote:You may not...but others may (most likely not). The psychological effects of terrorism can sometimes trump a high body count.Meggie wrote:if thats the case theres a lot worse things he can do then blow up a plane carrying a couple dozen soldiers.
Just look at the whole "Beltway Sniper" incident where fifteen shootings left ten people dead. The body count was "low" compared to the typical terrorist attack (hell, even the Carrollton bus disaster had almost three times as many fatalities), yet it practically paralyzed that entire section of the country for close to an entire month.
As much as the average Al Queda jackhole would love to see a large number of Americans (military or civilian) killed, being able to drive fear into the heart of millions of people at once would probably be considered an even greater victory. Killing a couple dozen soldiers on a random flight is a good way for them to reinforce the idea that nobody is safe.
Here's another point I just thought of.
If you profile the known suicide bombers over the past decade you will definitely get a clear profile... young, male...etc etc......
We should be so on guard for these types that we force terrorists to recruit another type to accomplish anything thereby opening them up to further exposure.
Racial profiling can be good in this case, because it's not about apprehending one criminal but an ongoing sect or extremist cult....

I threw the male thing in as an example. Whatever the profile is, given recent analysis, concentrating on that might serve the same purpose as I mentioned before. In fact, the recruitment of Women bombers might be one result of profiling.downhill wrote:Humm...not to rain on your parade but suicide bombers are also female.
By the way, here is something extremely interesting and germane to the subject of this thread.

Why does a suicide bomber gotta be Muslim? Just because most are doesn't mean they all will be...the next suicide bomber could be a home grown white boy.rivas wrote:Spy and suice bomber are 2 different things imo.I think its impossible to infiltrate military unit with suicide bomber.

You don't think white people can be suicide bombers? White people are stupid enough to kill themselves so that their souls can fly up to a comet and be transported to heaven. Hell I remember someone posting here that he would gladly take a tracking device implanted in his body so that if he was ever captured in Iraq the US military could bomb the crap outta the location where he was being held. Not quiet the samething because that would be for a good cause, but still sacrificing ones life.rivas wrote:Yeah right![]()
All you need to do is find someone and brainwash them or someone who is desperate enough to fight for their cause.
Look at Columbine, those pricks shot their school up and then turned the guns on themselves, that was a suicide gunning...one step away from a bombing.

Another generalization. You seem to be speaking for all of those of Muslim faith. It's already been pointed out that race or religion have nothing to do with terrorism.
What race was Timothy Mcveigh? What religion? The minute he put his plans in motion, he was commiting sucide.
