Help! I'm trying to connect using 2 routers...

Post by jumper_jax »

Yeah, I'm totally new to this networking business, so hopefully I'll be able to explain my situation easliy..

Alright, basically I have one computer connected to the internet using the Wireless Linkys WRT54G, and one connected wirelessly. My problem comes from this: I have an ethernet cable running to my room (my stepdad sent it through the attic or something) that is connected to the router. I need to figure out how to hook up my other router (Linkys BEFSR41)to the ethernet in my room so that I can have two wired connections without running another wire through my house. (i need one to PC and one to Xbox) Because my parents where annoyed that I had two comming in..
Now, I tried setting up the router using the setup disc and followed all the steps, but it said that it couldn't connect to my computer ("try making sure the router is connected or reset the router for 10 seconds") <-I did both.

So... Is this possible? or am I just crazy....

Please help me :( I'm desperate!!!

i can't quite grasp what you trying to do, 2 router's etc?
from what i can gather you have a pc downstairs connected to the internet via wireless through a wireless router, then you have a cable from that router to the pc upstairs. and now you want another cable(internet connection) for your xbox?
well the easiest way is to have 2 lan cards in the upstairs pc,there chip as chips.
the you can either ics or bridge them to give internet access to the xbox

yeah... it's pretty complicating. lol. But I ended up buying a switch.. I found out that in order to get the router to work I'd have to go into it's settings and change a lot of things to basically tell it to "not be a router" it's crazy. haha.
