Modem/Router question

Post by cy »

Hi guys,

I have DSL service with Bell Sympatico (Canada). When i connect the modem straight into my computer, i am not getting an IP. However when i use WAN Miniport (PPPoE - putting in user/password in windows), i can connect to the net.

Now, when i connect the modem into router and have the user/password in router using PPPoE, it works as well.

What i am trying to do is get into the control panel in the modem, and without it getting the IP address, i can't get in it.

Is there anyway I can connect to the modem control panel through my router?

Any help would be appriciated!

Thanks,
Chris

Not usually when setup for PPPoE..depends on your router. To get to the modem, give your PC a static IP in the same range, often DSL modems, such as the Efficient Networks Speedstream 4100, will have an IP like 192.168.0.1 for their web admin. Just assign your PC a static IP like 192.168.0.10/255.255.255.0 You can leave gateway and DNS blank..you don't use those just for web admin. When done...flip your PC back to obtain auto, or whatever settings it was before.
