I like the Surfboard because of its internal statistics page where you can look at your line power levels. http://www.compuplus.com has the 4100's for $158
The RCA has the internal pages, They have a utility in the box on the CD that gets you their. The CD came with my RCA 226.
Also you can find it by using the 10.xxx.xxx.1 number that is assignned to your modem and increment the last number 1 at a time until your modem resets. Thats your modem. The advanced diagnostic page can be found by adding /moreInfo.html after the IP address. (Note the capital I)
Also every modem page you find that doesn't make your modem reset is one of your neighbors!!!
You can also verify the modem page is yours by comparing the MAC address on the diagnostic page.

To see the diag pages on an RCA 215+
After modem registration, start up the Browser (MS Explorer)
Under Tools->Internet Options->Connections->LAN Settings
Set “Bypass proxy server for local addresses”
Under Advanced, enter 192.168.100.1 in the “Exceptions” box. (Do not use proxy server for addresses beginning with…)
Navigate to http://192.168.100.1/diagnostics.html for the end user web page.
Navigate to http://192.168.100.1/moreInfo.html for the technician web page..

The way I do it is run a trace route somewhere.
The first 10.xxx.xxx.1 hop is your cable modem.
then thry browsing to 10.xxx.xxx.2
then 10.xxx.xxx.3
etc.etc...
Eventually you will find one that causes your modem to reboot.
The two pages are
10.xxx.xxx.xxx/diagnostics.html
and
10.xxx.xxx.xxx/moreInfo.html
the x's are filled in with the address you found in the above steps.
I can't use the 192.168.100.1 method, but that might be due to the use of my Netgear Cable Router RT-311.
The included CD with your "purchased" modem has the ability to check using the 192.168.100.1 information on it.
