Is there any way to remove the KB911562 MDAC 2.8 Security Update and restore MDAC?

Post by MadMax350 »

I have traced one of my older software problems to the April 2006 update release from MS for MDAC 2.8 in Windows 98 SE. Trouble is, to find this out I had to delete my Windows directory from the HDD on one PC and reinstall Win 98 SE. I have another machine running the same OS and I don't want to do the same. Anyone know how to remove the KB911562 MDAC 2.8 Security Update?

It should be listed in add-remove pgms.
No one has any right to force data on you
and command you to believe it or else.
If it is not true for you, it isn't true.

Curious what legacy software you're running that has issues with .NET and MDAC updates?

Hinting towards the idea..."may be time to update that software".

The aforementioned MDAC update is NOT listed in the add/remove programs list.

I had considered that option until I discovered the company who made the said piece of software has since sold out and the new company no longer offers support/updates for this product.

I guess my next question is: How do you completely uninstall MDAC? I tried deleting the MDAC directories on my HDD and all files I could find associated with MDAC and reinstalled MDAC 2.8 and same problem exists.

Cool. Read that and attempted the dasetup.exe /u rollback feature. No good. Got an error message stating MDAC could not be rolled back. However, I did find and download MDAC 2.8 SP1 and installed it and my legacy software now works fine. Microsoft Windows Update still says I need to download an update for MDAC 2.8 SP1 but no way am I going to chance that.

Also did Windows 98 update installing KB911562. Microsoft Streets and Trips 2005 started abending when I selected a single address in an address find. I also found and download MDAC 2.8 SP1 - that fixed the problem. Thanks for the help......... :thumb:
