Hahah is this bad?

I am at my work computer. Dell Gx150 and my PSU Fan is dying, or so my IT guy tells me. The fan is making a loud noise and i just smack my computer to shut it up haha. It works for a minute or so before i start hearing it.

Am i just speeding up the inevitable? or by me hitting it, is the fan functioning back to normal

Ehhh...PSU are fairly cheap...just have them replace it--I am sure the noise is a little annoying after a while. I would think the hitting would make it worse, then again, stranger things have happened.

Just stick a pen in there, that'll break it and shut it up for good

lol.. had a computer come into the Repair shop at BBY and I took out a noisy fan, saw it jammed.. told them that the fan is jammed, and probally un-recoverable. They said see what I could do.. took the fan out.. slammed it face down 3 times in the counter.. pluged it back in.. no noise, no hesitation.. just a nice perfectly working fan.. PSU fans are not somthing I'd normally try and removed from the PSU But if you think you can get to it.. go for it.. the back one is really easy to get to.. but the bottom fans.... forget it..

That was good stress relief too.. Told them that if it jammed again which it could then to just replace it but it works good now, heck i didn't even charge them cause of the fact that I had a better day after killin some stress thanks to them =) (30 second fix anyways.. jeez..)

i hope my psu dies of overheating... i wouldn't mind just sitting in my cube while they replace it....

I always take my PSU's apart when they do that and replace them with a quality fan. They are very easy most of the time to take out.

Bearings on the fan....the rotation sets it on the bad spot...you whack it..knocks it a bit..but it will always settle back down to being noisy.

Some of the Dell towers actually have a rather proprietary power supply..the AC input is flipped to a different non-ATX standard corner. Takes a bit to find the replacement (had to do it recently for a law firm client).

Too many whacks upside of it though..and you risk affecting the hard drive (esp if you do it while it's running)

2 weeks left before i relocate to another building/department + no files on my local HDD... = me smacking away
