XP fails to complete booting after autoupdate install

Post by AMPLIFRIER »

i installed the autoupdates from MS today........there were 2 of them.

1 for AEC.SYS......this was to fix a bluescreen issue

2 not sure what patch KB##### it was but it was a security fix.

after the reboot to complete the install......it gets to the splash screen and then acts like its going to bring up the desktop......and then......it begins booting all over again.....and it does it again....and it does it again......

the hardware has been solid and totally error free.

anyone else seeing this...or hearing this form anywhere.....looking for info at this point.....dont want to load it on the rest of my machines till i know its ok.

TIA

There are some issues with the latest updates, to get back into Windows try and hit the F8 key while the pc boots then choose the option "Last known good configuration".

Have not run across that symptom from any updates...and this week I've been especially busier than normal with windows updates on a lot of computers.

Can you get it into safe mode?

last known good doesnt do the trick.....and the thing wont boot into safe mode either.

reloading is looking more like the route to go here.

im also thinking its time to try out Unbuntu.

that last critical update was accually a "FIX" of one that they released around the 11th but was causing problems with antivirus software, IE, and some other software they had to go back and fix..but I haven't read anything on it doing what you say its doing on the rebooting thing.. just for the hell of it switch your ram chips around and try the reboot, I know this doesn't sound like the problem but its worked for me in the past :D
