Linksys BEFSR41 router, and ftp server.

Post by jsbush »

I'm running a ftp server behind my linksys router. Every thing is configured right, the settings are right the port is fowarded to the right place. BUT some people can't connect to my server even if they enable passive mode. It connects, but it doesn't list the directorys.

Anyone have any ideas on what to do? I'm running the latest firmware for the router. 1.37.

I don't no if this will help but the latest firmware for the BEFSR41 is 1.38.2 beta and it addresses some issues users have. To check it out go to www.dslreports.com Community - Forums - routers - Linksys. Like I said I don't no if this will help.

Well it does it with IIS 5.0's ftp serive, with g6ftp server and serv-u. I know for a fact that its not the server's configuration.

I'll try out the 1.38 firmware see if that helps.

I run a ProFTP server behind my BEFSR41, haven't had any problems yet.

People still get the error "ERROR 425 Can't open data connection" when they try to connect to me. And I have the new 1.38 beta firmware.

Any ideas.

Have the user use PASV mode in their FTP client

Well I just setup a freesco router. http://www.freesco.org and I will check it out tomorrow if it works or you guys who are behind a network if you don't mind checking it out.

ip: ftp.dittohost.com
port: 21
login/pass: test

I hope this freesco router will be nice and stable. I'm running it on an old IBM PS1. 486sx 25mhz, with 20megs of ram. I'm running it off the floppy. Would I be better off using the hard drive? Also can this system slow my cable down? Should I use a faster one for my router? I've got full of old pc's here including p120mhz.

Thanks for all the help.

pasv mode won't work with ftps behind routers because when you send the pasv command the box running the ftp server sends it's internal ip address which is no good, you can however set certain ports to use ftp servers which the router will automaticly look at the packets and replace the ip, depending on what router you're using

Even with the freesco router, it still does the list error thing. What port should I use? I would really like the use 21 since it's the default ftp port.

Dude, I told you I connected and was able to list/download files. It could be a quirk of whatever FTP client you use to access...

Well a few people where having the problem. It applys to some and not to others. One guy got it to work by doing ftp://test:test@dittohost.com but using cute ftp pro, it wouldn't work for him. The others I haven't contacted yet.

Thanks for your help.

This is a know problem with windows 2000. KB artical #Q269285
