help tweak upload.... !!!

Post by kinkymaster »

hello guys, :D

i have tweaked a friend of mine pc ( 384k/128k dsl, modem is netroute/ethernet ), and i get 99% of download average speed, but his upload speed, uses about 60 - 70% of bandwidth. that was a problem from the beggining. Any ideas and suggestions?

thnx :D

Download Cablenut Adjuster from http://www.cablenut.com.

Open the table with all empty fields and make this:

DefaultSendWindow - 16384

Click 'Save to Registry' exit and reboot comp.

The registry keys for DefaultSendWindows are at:

LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\AFD\Parameters

LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\AFD\Parameters

LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\AFD\Parameters

Change all values to decimal - 16384

i agree with u......... this is the correct value........ 128 x 1024/8 = 16384, but it does not work at this pc. I think that, it is his ISP problem.
Please give me the best values for cablenut so i can test . Im afraid that i will break the download speed with cablenut but.......... anyway. :D

think of something else?

I will need to know his MTU and latency values to suggest values for Cablenut.

ok!

TCP options string = 02040584

MTU = 1452
MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput. If you are using a router, it could be limiting your MTU regardless of Registry settings.

MSS = 1412
MSS is not optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU value.

Default TCP Receive Window (RWIN) = 65535
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled TCP Receive Window = 65535

Note: TCP 1323 Options need to be enabled for RWIN over 2^16 (65535). Windows 9x might also need the MS Vtcp386 fix.
For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
Other RWIN values that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
519616 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 8)
259808 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 4)
129904 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 2)
64952 (MSS x 46)

bandwidth * delay product (Note this is not a speed test):

Your TCP Window limits you to: 2621.4 kbps (327.675 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your TCP Window limits you to: 1048.56 kbps (131.07 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = OFF

Time to live left = 122 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = OFF
IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 11110000 (240)

Precedence (priority) = 111 (Network Control)
Delay = 1 (low delay)
Throughput = 0 (normal throughput)
Reliability = 0 (normal reliability)
Cost = 0 (normal cost)
Check bit = 0 (correct, 8th checking bit must be zero)

DiffServ (RFC 2474) = No valid DiffServ equivalent. See the TCP Optimizer documentation, or RFCs 2474, 2475, 2597, 2598, 2873.

Can his MTU value be increased? Either through TCP Optimizer or tweaking his modem.

If using the TCP Optimizer, do the following:

General Settings tab:
Custom settings - check
Modify All Network Adapters - check
network adapter selection - your NIC
MTU - 1500
TTL - 64
TCP Receive Window - blank
MTU Discovery - Yes
Black Hole Detect - No
Selective Acks - Yes
Max Duplicate ACKs - 2
TCP 1323 Options:
Windows Scaling - unchecked
Timestamps - uncheck
Advanced Settings tab:
Max Connections per Server - 10
Max Connections per 1.0 Server - 20
LocalPriority - 5
Host Priority - 6
DNSPriority - 7
NetbtPriority - 8
Lan Browsing speedup - optimized
QoS: NonBestEffortLimit - 0
ToS: DisableUserTOSSetting - 0
ToS: DefaultTOSValue - 72
MaxNegativeCacheTtl - 0
NetFailureCacheTime - 0
NegativeSOACache Time - 0
LAN Request Buffer Size - 32768
Then select "Apply Changes" and reboot to take effect

No i cant increase MTU. May be its locked by ISP because i cant even find it in registry. How can this happen? i have tweaked manually the registry with enough values. My problem is that tcpoptimizer, whenever i have used it, deletes the MTU value from ndiswan registry entry and make the connection a mess. I have told that to Philip but....... ? Our problem is only the upload.......... so? What do u suggest? to shoot the optimizer, or not?

If download has been tweaked to optimum, then there would not be any need for TCP Optimizer nor Cablenut.

As for trying to boost the upload, tweak the registry manually, varying the DefaultSendWindow = 128 x (64, 96, 128, 160, 192) and see if you can get better upload speed.

Also, check and eliminate possible spyware and malware as they will bleed off some bandwidth.
