NFL rigged?
Anyone that watched the Colts/Pittsburgh game yesterday had to be wondering if NFL games are rigged. That pittsburgh INT that was called back and the 8 points posted by the colts afterwards to make it a game again. While i was watching it i was wondering what unbiased people were thinking. Of course i got to wondering how much of this stuff is staged...
What is your take on it? Rigged or not?
Think about the amount of money the NFL makes each year. how many people were on the Colts bandwagon this year. How many on Steelers last year. Not to mention the modern Pats dynasty. Does it pay to have certain teams win?

It would be hard to think one of those sports is and that football isn't. Id imagine it would make more money to rig football than baseball or basketball. I was always kinda finding it funny that we get hit on 9/11 and the "patriots" win the superbowl that year...WTF!!

LOL. No. The interception was ruled an incompletion because thats the way the rule is written. No conspiracy. Fixing a football game is not possible unless too many people were involved and then the of course someone would talk about to the media. Joey Porter is just an idiot not a prognosticator.
*edit*
Also the NFL would make more money if infact the Steelers went to the Superbowl. They have more fans than the Colts by a long shot and buy more products etc...

Is that why the NFL already said it was a INT and shouldn't have been overruled?64bit wrote:LOL. No. The interception was ruled an incompletion because thats the way the rule is written. Yeah they admitted a mistake was made but the ref still interpreted the rule as its written, correctly im my mind. His knee was clearly on the ground when he started to fumble and the rule states the possesion has to be maintained while on the ground. Im sure they'll change that rule in the offseason as the way its written will lead to many calls just like that one. Its basically the same rule that took that TD off the board in the Tampa game. Im not biased against the Steelers though, really.
The fact is the NFL would want the Steelers in the SuperBowl just as much if not more than the colts so a fix in any game much less that one is not likely at all.

rigged, dunno... corrupt, YES
Every normal man must be tempted at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.
I often wonder if the voices in my head ever get frustrated because I'm just too damn lazy to climb that clock tower.

No flags.....and the ruling was....we dunno, play the down over again. LOL
LOL. The dude did false start. Then the colts got up and started pointing. The side judge was kinda like "stop play" but nobody threw a flag.
Respect it.
i dunno ... with all the bad calls across the boards this year, it sure seems like something's up ... or all the refs got struck dumb all of a sudden ...
now i have heard before that there is a push for "certain teams" to make the playoffs if at all possible. i had a lifelong Washington fan tell me that after Dallas beat us just before the playoffs. he said he'd seen it with Dallas many times - it's like the refs try to give them a little "push" to get in every year.
now whether that's true or not i don't know ... kinda doubt it, but then it wouldn't suprise me either ....

I cant see the game as being rigged, but have seen the number of bad calls go up. One difficult thing is the NFL competition committee changes the rules every year, if scoring is up they relax the rules on the d to get it down, if QBs are getting hurt they clamp down on the d. The worst example I have seen in the last few years was the god dammed tuck rule call for the Pats against the Raiders (yes I am biased) but wtf.

Unfortunately my beliefs today are anything or anyone can be bought if the price is right and usually the one buying has the monetary value to do just exactly that. Why should professional sports be any different than any other product, business, enterprise, or even justice system?? Wish I could go back to the starry eyed naive little girl...it was sooo much nicer than the truth!

Nah its not rigged. They are making a bigger deal out of that call then it needs to be. There has been several games over the years where a blatant call was missed that factored into the score of the game. I disagree with Porter on this one.
College ball is even worse when it comes to blown calls though. Shoot, look at the title game and Vince Young's obvious "knee down" play that wasn't called.

That was the biggest BS call I have seen all year. I wouldn't say the NFL is "rigged" because I wouldn't believe for a second that any player would throw a game. But I do believe that the Officials are told to "make the game interesting". There is no excuse for some of the officiating, especially this year. I understand 100% if a bad call was made on the field because the official is human and only sees the play from one angle. But when the play is challenged or reviewed and they look at it in slow motion form 10 different angles then there is no excuse for a bad call, that is where I think they should be fined for making bad calls. I know Joe Gibbs submitted many bad calls to the Officials after the game, all teams do this, and they admitted on most of they made the wrong call. But what is done about it? Nothing, they don't do any better the next week they simply say sorry and that call lost the game for you. If they can review a bad call that has been submitted to them why can't they call it correctly during a review during the game?

I don't necessarily think it's rigged I just think its run by humans and sometimes humans hold bias, make mistakes, bad calls, etc.. We try to compensate for this with all the technical measures and instant replay, but in the end human minds can and will always continue to make mistakes. The number of people and the amount of effort going into each football game makes it much more difficult for the greed of one to spoil it for all. There are too many eyes on the field for me to truly believe that there are any higher conspiracies going on.

I strongly feel the NFL is rigged. Is it coincidence that right after 9/11 the Patriots, after starting 0-3, win the division and #1 seed? And the infamous "tuck rule" just so happened that year? No, it's rigged...this year is all about the Jerome Bettis sympathy story. The Super Bowl is in his hometown, and in 13 years, he's never played in the Super Bowl, and he NEEDS a ring to finalize his illustrious career. How else would you explain the BLOWN kick by Vanderjagt last week? How does the most accurate kicker in the history of the NFL miss a kick that wide right, especially in a dome with no wind? Money exchanges hands and therefore with Pittsburgh heading to the Super Bowl, Jerome Bettis can finally get his ring and retire, in his hometown.
So every other team the Patriots played that year were involved in "the fix" and it never got out to the media, even though NFL football is the 2nd most written about sport on the planet. The NFL decided though to shut the most accurate QB in history out of a SB in Dan Marino though...why? They also decided to get the Bills to the SB 4 times in a row but just to show them SOB's in Buffalo who's boss they had the Bills tank every single one. Jerome Bettis....the heart of Pittsburgh for the last decade no doubt but an otherwise average HB is getting a free ride to the SB again with all these teams involved......Also no one really outside of the Pittsburgh area and possibly LA gives two craps if Bettis wins a SB or not he is often not even mentioned when talking about RB's in general. As for Vanderchoke a 46yrd FG is hardly a gimme. Those are missed every Sunday in the NFL by the best kickers...... Back to the fix, then the.......whoever is fixing these games says....hey after all this hard work of keeping a few thousand people quiet every year, and we got everyone watching.......I want to see some blowouts out there. I mean I want people to turn off these games your getting beat so bad. Why are they fixing these games again? This is a much different era then when the black sox scandel took place and the main reason those guys threw that series was to get back at a horrible employer that was creative with his checkbook to say the least. What motivation do any of the main players have in throwing games in this era? Money? Why risk your millons in salary......just doesn't add upLgndKller20073 wrote:I strongly feel the NFL is rigged.
