DSL and Modem Advice

Post by Kalapalo »

I have already tweaked my dsl connection and it is working well but I might be getting a new internet connection because this one is sometimes not reliable. I want a DSL connection that is the best possible and the fastest possible. I only want DSL because I don't want to deal with cable since every single person in my neighborhood has it :irate: . Anyways what is the best modem and internet provider out there?? Anyone have any advice?

I currently have Earthlink as a ISP (3 Mbps download advertisment) with a fujitsu speedport as my modem. Both of them are     ........ not good ;-)

Well...where are you located? Speakeasy.net is one of the better ISPs around..they have a 6 meg aDSL package, a little of 100 bucks a month. Or do you do hosting? A business sDSL package, 1.5 megs each way for over 200 a month?

Better ISPs with faster packages often use Cisco and Netopia equipment.

Think the Fuji Speedport is the only compatible modem you can use with Fuji Frame Relay DSLAM's.

That really is a good solid stable modem, I suspect your dslam has too much load on it if you see stalls or slow-downs .. and you know your phone line tests out ok.

If you have any phone static or telephone wiring problems at all,, might call and complain about that,,, which may fix what you perceive as dsl problems.

I don't you have what you think you have. :( :nope:
As said above...

"The Fuji Speedport is the only compatible modem you can use with Fuji Frame Relay DSLAM's. "

Yup been there, had that with Verizon. The Frame Relay (FR) is provisioned for 768/128.
I dropped FR for Verizons ATM 3000/768 a while back. Good stuff.

My advice: Dump Earthlink, get Verizon DSL service, as it will probably be ATM 3000/768 or 1500/384. Good Luck
.

Verizon 3000/768 DHCP DSL:
Download Speed: 2802 kbps (350.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 717 kbps (89.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

i am getting really annoyed with my earthlink and now I really want cable. My neighbor has it and well.... even with everyone having it it was still downloading at 3 Mbps which was extremly fast. i live 5 miles away ffrom the CO of adelphia( the ISP cable I want). So does anyone think that is bad? Will I get a new modem cause I really don't think that my modem is "stable" when I sometime play games my modem blinks and I get disconected
