Dunno if the link will work, for suicidal and truely hardcore knowledgeable beta testers only. No guarantees, use at own risk.

How in the world do they fit all that code into such a tiny EEPROM...

I have the firmware already and it rocks. However Linksys despises people distributing it, they would prefer to be emailed themselves and they will give it to you. But oh well if the link works go for it, the firmware is great. It fixes for one that dreaded MTU limit us Linky owners come to know quite well with firmwares 1.36 to 1.37.1

Thanks for the download link!

What is the new "SPI"?

Are you guys leaving the MTU disabled, or actually putting one in?

donald_k (or anyone else that can answer)

Could you elaborate a bit on what the MTU limit situation you mentioned?
It fixes for one that dreaded MTU limit us Linky owners come to know quite well with firmwares 1.36 to 1.37.1
Do you mean that no matter what you set your MTU to in the registry, certain Linksys firmware will still place a limit?

I'm using 1.34 and haven't bothered to upgrade. I've tried every tweek in the book and can't get the speeds some folks post here and had pretty much given up.

If there's an issue with the Linksys firmware that somehow limits my speeds, I'd sure like to know about it.

Thanks

I'll go out on a limb I don't own a linky except for the short time I had it. Any way it can limit your MTU we used a packet sniffer or protocol tester and ran it on a Linksys and on the Ugate3200 this was also reporting it on the old DSL reports tweak test tool some of the firmware was reporting in with the MTU at 1472 and some was reporting in at 1476...
This is the real nice one on a PPPoE connection if you set the Rwin in your machine on the Linksys and the Ugate it sets the MTU down to 1362
If you do a straight ping such as this to your routers gateway this is basically what you get. Not the gateway the routers gateway.
Pinging 10.0.0.2 with 1458 bytes of data:

Reply from 10.0.0.2: bytes=1458 time<10ms TTL=64
Reply from 10.0.0.2: bytes=1458 time<10ms TTL=64
Reply from 10.0.0.2: bytes=1458 time<10ms TTL=64
Reply from 10.0.0.2: bytes=1458 time<10ms TTL=64

Ping statistics for 10.0.0.2:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms

C:\>ping 10.0.0.2 -l 1459

Pinging 10.0.0.2 with 1459 bytes of data:

Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.

Ping statistics for 10.0.0.2:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms
Get the picture... There forcing LAN managment so they can squeze 256 users through however how many of you need to do that...
There slowing us down I personnaly havent lost allot but on a heavy night it can be as much as 200kbps and personally in primetime I want that 200kbps back. Esp. when all 11 machines here are running...
So for the ones that have said how great the linky is it hasnt been.. The only reason the UGate hasnt caught as much flak on it till just resent is the features in it are so much nicer...
We should be going after these router builders for good updates like this firmware I was sent...

Funny thing Dan when I reformatted I could do 1472 bytes to the router. After I tweaked my settings a little I end up with this:

Code: Select all

Pinging 192.168.0.253 with 1448 bytes of data:

Reply from 192.168.0.253: bytes=1448 time<10ms TTL=64

Reply from 192.168.0.253: bytes=1448 time<10ms TTL=64

Reply from 192.168.0.253: bytes=1448 time<10ms TTL=64

Reply from 192.168.0.253: bytes=1448 time<10ms TTL=64

Reply from 192.168.0.253: bytes=1448 time<10ms TTL=64

Ping statistics for 192.168.0.253:

    Packets: Sent = 5, Received = 5, Lost = 0 (0% loss),

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

    Minimum = 0ms, Maximum =  0ms, Average =  0ms

Code: Select all

Pinging 192.168.0.253 with 1449 bytes of data:

Request timed out.

Just to let everyone know that with the 1.37 firmware, I was getting 1472 as my MTU with the TCP/IP analyzer from this sight. After the 1.38.3 firmware upgrade, I'm getting 1500 Mtu. So I guess everyone should update there firmware. I haven't had any problems yet with it.

In case for some odd reason that link that dannjr gave does not work go here
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,608261;root=equip,16;mode=flat#608289

however you must follow the directions of that site if you go there, try to use dann's link if at all possible.

Found something interesting. The link provided by dannjr and one at DSLreports are different firmware's.

One by DSLreports:

The one at DSLreports is newer. I have used both, but noticed no difference. Thought I would point this out. :D
