I am going to get ADSL, so just looking for a good modem or a modem-router.
Which is the best modem out there which is fast and same time support all of those broadband activities.(I'm still on dialup) like torrents, hosting, sharing, p2p etc..
i have some products please let me know your opinions
I think any of those would be fine (expect the Linksys, it is not an ADSL modem). Simplest is a router which has the modem built in. I am using a USB modem now, just make sure that you don't get one of these.
Hay thanks for your reply jthol! Whats wrong with normal USB modem?
In my area they say now they have only D-Link DSL-210 modem. Which has only USB port. Is it bad?
Or should i go to next city trying to find D-Link DSL-504T External ADSL Modem with Built-in Router and 4-port 10/100Mbps Switch ?
Do you really have to have a combination device? Best advice is to have separate Modem and Router. I have had DSL for over 5 years and have had to change modems twice (one upgrade, one failure) and am on my 2nd router (soon to be 3rd due to a port failure). Perhaps I got some bad equipment, but it happens and with a combination device, if one of your components goes out, your entire network goes down.
If I cant talk you out of it, either of those should be acceptable, but I have had better luck with D-Link tech support in the past, so I prefer them.
DO NOT get a USB modem if you want to use Linux. Sure, there are drivers out there, but if you ever want to switch flavors of linux, you could run into significantly more problems than if you had an ethernet-based modem. Make sure you use a NIC that is compatible with many distros and you wont have problems.
