Now that I have this intel EM64-T enabled processor; any advantage upgrading to XP64?
I see that Microsoft has released a "new" OS, supposidly written specifically for 64-bit applications. (Windows XP Professional x64). Right now I have Windows XP Pro SP2. Since I have the Pentium D 820 dual-core EM64-T processor; would there be any advantage to upgrading to the XP-64 OS?
Dell XPS 600; Pentium D dual-core 3.0ghz EM64-T, 800mhz FSB; 2gb DDR2 667mhz mem; GeForce 6800 256mb PCI-E x16 Video; SB X-Fi Audio; Lucent 56k PCI Modem; Seagate 160GB SATA HDD; Western Digital Caviar SE 80gb SATA HDD; Lite-On 16x DVD-ROM; Philips DVD-RW; Windows XP Pro SP2

Not really. GamePC did an article on it, even running benchmarks against the standard 32bit. If you're into gaming...you'll notice some games don't run as well under the 64bit OS. Much of it due to drivers still "maturing".

A friend of mine built a rig recently, using the 64bit...some games CTD'd now and then, he wiped it clean and put the old 32bit on...runs like a champ now.
I'd wait...I don't see a single reason to jump onboard yet.

I agree with stonecat.
I've got it, have an AMD 64bit chip and its basically the exact same OS. As stuff comes out that takes advantage of 64bit cpus and operating systems the x64 XP OS will take off some, but not until then.
Since you have the Intel 64bit chip once software is designed for 64bit XP, not just updated to be "compatabile" then I would move to it.
Cat what games gave ur friend trouble?

Knows how to build PCs...latest BIOS, solid hardware (Asus mobo, new ATI mid-range PCIe card like xt600 or something, Crucial RAM, Sonata 2 case, 2 gigs of Crucial)....latest drivers, all the usual stuff. Runs top notch when he's running 32bit.
Something about with the 64bit Windows, you get 2x program files directories? A regular C:\Progam Files, and a C:\Program Filesx64? I dunno, haven't dabbled with Winders 64 yet myself.

With XP x64 you have C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files (x86) folders.
"Program Files" is the 64 bit programs folder.
All my games are installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Games\ And I have all 3 Battlefields installed and working, well had, I removed Veitnam cuz I dont play it much. Maybe its an Intel 64bit issue, or maybe there is something to the folder assignment.
