built new comp, wont connect to net

Post by HT2791 »

i built my computer at school (yeah..) and brought it home.

i just put it next to my original computer where all the plugs and the actual cable modem is.

the first time, the internet actually worked.. everthing.
but i uninstalled something on desktop, etc, windows updates, new programs, everthing that required me to reboot. including installing sound drives.

that all happened yesterday

i started it up today, internet didnt work.
i did system restore, and it did (web pages, ec) but i had to install sound drives, and reinstall everything i had

rebooted, and now it wont work.
no matter how many times i restore,

Sooo
i reformatted, but internet wont work.. (how many times have i said that..)
what cud be the problem?

i've got a SiS 900 (someting like that) modem driver with a Winfast 760GXK8MB motherboard.

_______-

my plans were to take this comp to another house, that has another ISP for cable modem.. i just want to know why it wont connect to the net here anymore..

________

also, i've got another problem.

everytime i have a window that requires me to scroll, it goes down frame by frame.

a huge problem when i use the third button on my mouse.

how to fix?

it happened on this comp (old one) before, but i fixed it..

Perhaps you uninstalled the NIC, probably onboard. Try reinstalling the chipset drivers.

I chalked that comment up to poor grammar, or perhaps ESL. I'm assuming he meant deleted a bunch of shortcuts, and updated Windows, uninstalled some crap, etc.

my poor grammar? sorry :)

but anyhoo, about that desktop Icon.
I popped in my mobo cd, and installed random stuff.
I believe it was a Lan driver i installed.

but im not using a lan, so i didnt think i needed.
btw, after i installed it, and rebooted, the icon was there.
so i went to my start > programs found what that icon was for and uninstalled (i think)
_______-

found in my mobo drivers section, about chipset.
i installed it, but it would not connect to the internet.

_________

conected to the internet by:
cable modem
no router
ethernet

____

im moving this comp to another house with another ISP, so hopefully it will work there.

It shouldn't work there either, because you uninstalled the NIC driver. Right-click My Computer, left-click Manage, go to Device Manager, and see if it doesn't have the a question mark or red X by the network adapters.

Reinstall all the chipset drivers, which should include your LAN driver. If it doesn't, reinstall that too. This is your NIC (network interface card, or ethernet) driver. You need it.

Installing random stuff may lead to random problems.

Oooooh, I get it now. Cable modem, connected directly to the internet, no router, funny pop-ups pointing you to different sites....yeah, I think you're in the wrong forum, you might want to check the forum 6 doors up.

Scanned for spyware/malware/viruses lately?

*sorry for being a smart***, couldn't resist :D *
