2005 Lamborghini Gallardo

Post by minir »

Hi to All

One Sweet Ride
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The concept behind the Gallardo was to create a sports car that can be used on an everyday basis, reports Tony Whitney. "Its handling would shame some race-cars I've driven, but when driven in city traffic, the car is surprisingly docile," he says.
Hi YARDofSTUF
I think their intent was to get rid of all the appendages and try to clean up the lines somewhat. Pretty nice, but too expensive imho.
Thanks YARDofSTUF, do enjoy the day :)
Thanks for the post Larry, however in my opinion, i dont think they did very well with the looks department...to be honest i would much rather have the Ford GT...but i cant quite decide on the color...the blue one or the white...
If you want to see one in action, rent The Transporter 2 when it comes out on DVD. (Don't bother seeing it in the theater.) Neat paddle shifter!
I've seen several Gallardos and they look great and definately turn heads. That being said the brand new Corvette Z06 has very similar specs with more torque and runs under $70K US. 505 HP and 3133 pounds. It's faster than the Ford GT and the Gallardo and obviously significantly cheaper. The Lambo wins the jawdrop contest, but if you want to save money, go faster, and to be able to see out of the rear window the Vette wins in my book.
Hey, I cleared 100 posts and didn't even notice :)
Hi Bastid, ghost & DV
Bastid
GT's nice, but very impractical for everyday use.
---
ghost
Saw it perform on either Top Gear or 5th Gear Show, can't remember which. nice car.
DV
We're talking recognition here DV, when your talking Lambo, same cannot be said for the Vette. When the Doorman drools all over himself and you get pride of place parking out front at an exclusive Club. That's what people in this league are shooting for and a Vette i fear simply doesn't go over in that league.
Vette, a great car, but lacking Pedigree in the Company of Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo, Aston etc.
Congrats on the 100 :thumb:
Hi Minir
I agree 100% that the lambo will turn way more heads. How bought you buy the Vette, turn the 1/4 mile 7/10's of a second faster, and use the extra $110,000 to buy a head turning Porsche :) In all seriousness if I were given $180K and forced to buy a car it would be the Ferrari F430, and the Gallardo would be the 2nd choice. Take care and keep posting the good articles.
Hi Bastid
That's what makes the world go round my Friend. Differing points of view. The GT is absolutely Sexier, i agree. 8 MPG though makes it a tough commute. :D
Thanks :)
Hi SRF01 & Bastid
SRF01
Your secrets safe with me. Please remit $20 bucks to ensure i don't forget :D
--
Bastid
If used as they are meant to be, most of these types of Cars become gas hogs real quick. As you say if you can afford one, however they also have small tanks and cannot get very far down the road without stopping for fuel thus negating any speed advantage they may have. For a quick Sunday morning Blast though, Yippee!
Nice!
Practicality is not what exotics are about...nor is value. Sure Corvettes and Mustangs give better performance per dollar ratio, or in the Vettes case...even slightly better performance in some areas. But....still, can't compare the "grin" factor an enthusiast will enjoy while ringing the beautiful music from an Italian V-10...and I'd like to see a comparison between this and the Vette when considering 40-80, or 80-120, or 120-160, etc. Vette may have the grunt off the line and in the 1/4 mile...but that's where the Lambo can begin to stretch its legs and come into it's own realm.
Vettes, Porsches, Mustangs....see many of those every day, they're commonplace. But a Lambo...I can go a few months without seeing one. It defines "Exotic".
Hey there Cat
Based on recent tests the new Z06 Vette should actually take the Gallardo in all of those speed runs. It has a slightly better power to weight ration and over 100 more lb feet of torque. Car and Driver got the Z06 from 0 to 150 in 17.5 seconds vs. 21.4 seconds for the Lambo. Also the quarter mile speeds are 127 vs. 118. There is speculation in some forums that the 505HP claim from GM is low.
I agree about the Italian V-10. I don't think people are buying that car to be the fastest. The noise that would come from winding that thing out to 8000 RPM's would definately be superior to the roar of the Vette.
Have a good weekend all :thumb:
Hi Bastid, rivas, YeOldeStonecat, nightowl & DV
Bastid
Not a pretty picture. Hahaha
----
rivas
Yes it truly is. You should have been born rich rather than Good Looking Eh! rivas :)
---
YeOldeStonecat
Exactly YOSC. The Euros were never about 0-60 as you say, till they made a huge push in the American marketplace. They are more about ride and handling, while doing 150mph.
It defines "Exotic".
It indeed does :)
---
nightowl
Can't argue that nightowl. However once outside the Pub on a Fri. night, guess which Car gets the Girl ;)
---
DV
The Vette has become a more accepted Car by the Euro Press DV, but in things that matter in the moneyed Elite crowd, it doesn't enter the equation. No cache.
There is nothing like a Ferrari V12 at Full Chat. It will stir your blood.
Still the Vette is a lovely car and one i could live with quite easily. :thumb: A poor Man's Supercar :thumb:
Thanks to All for your thoughtful replies and do enjoy your weekend :)
The F430 would still put ya in the hole by about 50k or so. Best sports car on the market right now from all the literature I've seen.
The car I'd drop 180 on is the R34 Z-Tune, that car is NUTS. 1/4 in the mid tens, 0-60 approaching the 2 second realm, and its a daily driver. I think they are 175k or so....I got wood reading the article. Nismo created the thing and it's warrantied. *drool*
I've also read that the F430 is on a whole different level. I googled the Z-tune and that looks sweet.. Any plans to bring that to the U.S.? Looks like the steering wheel is on the wrong side :( The U.S. doesn't usually get some of the best cars. At least we finally got the Elise.
The Gallardo is nice, however, if I had the duncans to go Lamborghini, I could only say 1 word, Murcielago.... The bad boy... ;)
I have been thinking about getting a Lotus though... The new Elise is quite quick, and a babe magnet... :D Of course, it isn't a car that you would want to drive every day in Florida, as they are a bit striped for an midengine exotic... Still for ~$50,000, and knowing my "mid-life crisis"... But, I do favor the Espirit even if they don't make them anymore... :D heheheeheheheh
Although, a nice Porsche has potential, just too many of them around...
What should this old man do? :D
