Hey y'all my family and I are OK!

Post by RoundEye »

We rode out the storm at home, in fact I slept damn near the whole thing. I was so tired from work and getting ready for the storm I just couldn't go anymore.

When I woke up though it looked like a big ass bomb went off though. Trees, poles, roofs and whole homes are blown to pieces or just gone completely. Our house made it through with minor siding damage but my dad's house is probably going to need a whole new roof and front porch. Where I live didn't flood, but damn near the rest of the entire city is under water. We just got a lot of wind damage. They are saying that once they get the levee fixed (it broke in two places) it'll probably still take till after thanksgiving to pump all the water out of the city since we live in a bowl.

We are in the lucky few that finally got electricity back. Living off of MRE's and water for now. There are no stores left and gas is about a two hour drive from here.

I have a ton more to say but I have to get some sleep, just my luck that I have been in the hospital twice already. Once for my leg getting infected from walking through the flood water, and tonight. Out of all times I got a damn kidney stone and it's about 5mm in size :irate:

I have quite a few friends that lost everything and are scatered all over the U.S. I didn't read the whole thread that Brent posted, because of the sheer stupidity, but it's not just the "poor Black people" that are moving all over the U.S. right now.

I'll get back with some of you later with phone numbers where I can be reached, I'm just damn lucky just to be able to connect right now.

Y'all take care,
Michelle, Tobey and Jay. :2cool:

P.S. Please dont post any large pictures in this thread, I'll check in later on when I can, but I'm on dial up, and if I get 14K right now I'm doing good.

Thank God you escaped without too much damage, but I don't envy what lies ahead for you. Just take one day at a time and know that prayers are headed your way.

It will be very interesting to hear more about this when you can take some time for yourself.

By the way, I'm still looking for the most effective way to assist financially down there. Since you are on the scene, do you have any recommendations?

Thanks everybody, we'll get through this one day at a time as mentioned.
It got rough the first few days because other then the Louisiana National Guard, we had no help at all the first few days.

The stories we come in time but here's two for you,
1) When the levee broke the water came up in a matter of minutes, 1000's of people we stranded on an interstate overpass. No food, water or anybody coming to get them during a hurricane. After the storm two Spanish guys in a very small flat boat, would paddle out there with broken boards and bring them what ever food and water they could find.
These guys did this for FIVE days.
Nobody knows who they were, and they won't come forward, probably because they were stealing the food. They didn't steal paddles but they saved a lot of lives during those days getting food and water however they could. Some people even reported that they could see that the guys hands were raw and blisstered from all the paddeling.

2) When the water came up a friend of mine had to get into his attic, after a while they were up to thier necks in water. He kicked a hole in the roof and they sat out the storm on the roof. After the storm passed a couple of old cajun guys in a flat boat got them to dry land. From there they caught a ferry across the river and was brought to the airport by helicopter I think. From there (since he has a CDL license) he drove a bus load of people to Baton Rouge. There he met up with him mom and off to San Antonio they went.
The bummer part is he had just made the second payment on his new home. Not only did he lose his house but every thing in it, two cars and two very exspensive racing sport bikes.

So I feel very lucky.

More later but I have to go now. As much as I hurt right now with this Kidney stone, it's better then being dead.
