speedtest

Post by jim1133 »

Used to get a bit over 500kps using
ba-hss.com speedtest site. On 3/18 it dropped to a range of 250-350kps.

Looking for a Verizon DSLer in Boston area of Massachusetts or anywhere else in the state to do a couple of tests at that site and post the results.

Obviously, tech support is not at all interested.

Different speed sites wil give you different speeds. This is do to how far away you are. Plus the traffice they are receiveing. Try downloading NetStatLive from www.analogx.com
This will give a more accurat reading when you are downloading. GoodLuck! ;)

Even Netstat needs to capture information while you transfer to a site. He is internal to his providers network, he shouldn't see that much fluctuation over such a sort period of time.
I would try to do a transfer at several different times and include a few high speed external sites for giggles. Try AOL.com or Netscape.com or FTP.LUCASARTS.COM. If you continue to receive slow speeds I'll hook up my backup line (Verizon DSL in NJ) and test speeds from here. Just have to reconfigure my router from my cable line.
Although, it wouldn't be unheard of for Verizon to have screwed up their whole network. They usually do it every 3 months or so and it takes them a month to fix it. I know since I had Verizon DSL for 2 years before getting my cable connection.

Thanks for the offer, BK, but don't go to the bother of changing your setup. I was just hoping someone near Boston would read this and post a couple of test results. At the same time as Verizon dropped, so did dslreports.com, 2wire.com, Microsoft and Telus. My guess is that it is a Network problem, but tech support only yawns.

Hi Jim,
I,m north of you up in N.H. I also use Verizon, 640/90 plan. Here is my last speed test from DSLR.

2001-04-22 06:51:07 Speed test 598/95 kbps

This was this past weekend. Tonight on the Verizon speed test I,m getting 512 down. On the UMICH speed test tonight I,m getting 509 down. I usually test in the 510 to 525 range at most test sites. The DSLR test result was a higher than normal speed for me, not the norm. The Verizon service up here, for me anyway, has been pretty rock solid since I got connected last October. I also dumped Winpoet and use a Netgear RT311 router. Good luck, Ralph
