I can definitely hear a resemblence to a U2 sound....I'd say mid to later years of U2. Both in vocals, and often in guitar too.

I have every coldplay album and 2 pre 1990 U2 albums. I don't see a resemblance.

Me too. Franz Ferdinand comes close at times.

actually, Coldplay to me is quite original...they sound nothing like U2. They are definately not a 1 hit wonder band and will be around for many years to come.

:nope: Lots of bands these days owe a debt to U2..I don't think coldplay is any more a ripoff of U2 than a dozen other new bands I can think of. If anything I'd say they rip off Thom Yorke and Radiohead more as far as the sound goes.

Coldplays new album has tons of great new songs. Their new single "fix you" is gonna be a classic.

btw- coldplay didn't end with yellow. Their last album sold about ten million copies worldwide, and the new one is looking like it could do 15.
Funny is when a fat lady walks around while someone plays the tuba. Once you've seen that, you'll never laugh at anything else. Except maybe a skeleton dancing around while someone plays the xylophone, which is almost exactly the opposite of a fat lady walking around while someone plays the tuba. Well, a skeleton is the opposite of a fat lady. But is a xylophone the opposite of a tuba? History will decide.

The heavy use of keyboards is a clue to the mimicry of U2's stylings.... ahem.

 I agree 100%

Coldplay is just too bland imho ... they have a great career ahead of them with elevator music though ...

No, the new cd takes them to a whole new level. I didn't think the first cd was that great either, and I wasn't big on the second (don't even have either of them, even as downloads or bootlegs), but this new album converted me into a coldplay fan.
