Please Help me with my Issue. 20$ For giving me the right answer via paypal

Alright here is my issue. First of all, All I want to do is change my WAN IP. You know, the IP you get when you connect to whatsmyip.com I currently live in Austin Texas, with Roadrunner. I have a netgear router.

I have been told that you can change your MAC address to recieve a new IP but i simply cannot figure out how too with my netgear router.

Is there any service out there that issues a NEW IP every time you connect? IE Satellite connection? Or any PROXY service out there that gives you a new IP every time you connect?

I have been reading everything on the internet and figured this would be the best place to go. If you could help, It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks alot!

I'm not going to ask why you need a new IP so I'll just break it down to you. Your IP is assigned to you or your router by your Internet Service Provider via the DHCP protocol. A simple way to get a new one would be to power cycle your (turn off and back on) cable/dsl modem. What happens is that your IP goes back into a pool and when your modem boots back up it asks your ISP for an IP and it gets a different one from the pool.

Some people I know use public proxies to keep websites from tracking data about them so I'm going to assume your reasons are just as legitimate. Read up on public proxies here: http://www.publicproxyservers.com/index.html

Powercycling may not always get you a new IP. Easiest way is probably to call ur isp and tell them u want your IP changed, they'll probably need a reason.

You shouldnt offer money for help

Power cycling my modem does not work. I called roadrunner about it, they just give me the same IP based on my routers MAC address. If there was only a way to change it?

So does satellite internet give you a new IP evertime you log on? Somone please?!

It's determined by your ISP's policies. Cable often has long IP leases, DSL is often shorter, especially PPPoE based DSL.

Alright so it looks as if I cant change it via my ISP. Any other ISP that allowed you to change your IP whenever? Or something out there?!

Check into the DSL services in ur area.

None, but as stoney said, that would be your best bet, and getting a new isp would get u a new IP.

No, not whenever. Although it's common with PPPoE DSL through large ISPs that when you power cycle, you'll pull another IP. I have bridged DSL through a very good ISP, I'm similar to cable...I'll usually have the same IP for months on end no matter how many times I power cycle.

Usually people want to have the same IP. What's the reason behind wanting a different one so much?

Well I need a new IP because a few days ago my cousin came over to play a game, and got banned somehow?! So I wanted to get a clean slate to start from.

It seems like with satelilte you could easily change your IP? Is this possible

satelilte is horrible for gaming, is it one server, email them and see if they will unbann you

if u dont wanna change isp try releasing and renewing your ip address
i have acess to my buddy ftp, and i can acess it on user/psw/ip and sometimes i cant connect because my ip changed.I have to keep releasing and renewing my ip address until i get my ip back.It sometimes takes half an hour.

Other way could be buying new nic/router but im not sure if thats gonna help ?

Most likely that its the modems mac, and without the new mac getting registered the connection wouldnt work.

I'm going to tell ya.. they prob banned up to the xxx.xxx.xxx part such as excluding your last digits so it covers your whole region so you can't get back in with a simple power cycle or small IP# change from .22 to .21

I've seen this when Quake1 was popular with LPB's were against HPB's and people would kick and ban out there server for havinga low ping lol

For websurfing hide your ip# with a proxy entered in the browser.

Alright i guess im going to try the PROXY route, always wanted to hide my IP from the internet anyways. I am doing some research and I found a proxy that worked with regular sites. But I would like this Proxy to work with http://www.pacificpoker.com and allow me to click the link (No download, Quick Play) on the right. Its java im assuming.

Is there any proxy program, proxy that will allow me to do this? Any information is appreciated.

Your ISP assigns you an IP based upon the MAC address of whatever is connected to the cable modem, in this case your router.

The MAC address of your router can be changed. Access the router configuration and change it and you will get a new IP.

If you change the MAC address of your router, could it cause any connection problems? And how do you find out your current router mac address, ipconfig /all shows your NICs MAC address right?

Should be on the bottom of the router, it can cause connection problems if you change it.

if my router doesnt copy the NIC MAC addy I cant connect.
