BF 2 Port forwarding help

Post by CBurcik »

I have been enjoying the demo tonight but can't connect to any servers through my router. (gotta connect direct to my cable modem to play)

I searched for at least a half hour for the ports that BF2 uses and can't find them.

HELP please.

I am sure that it is right in front of me but the readme file has no information and every forum I look at has lots of troubleshooting posts. Nobody seems to be having a port forwarding problem.

BTW - I have a DLink DI-624 router.

Thanks in advance.

If you're playing as a client, attempting to connect to public servers out there on the internet, you don't need to open/forward any ports on your router, the XP firewall doesn't even have to be turned off.

Opening/forwarding ports for a game is necessary say if you want to run a game server from behind you router, and make it public. But as a client, requests are from the inside, therefore allowed out and back in.

Something makes me thing DNS, or is you system clean from ad/spyware? That may have messed up the winsock.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Still not working.....if you didn't catch it in my first post, the game works fine when I connect direct to my cable modem.

This is really bugging me, I can't think of any router settings that could be causing a problem.

If you're behind the router, is your workstation just pulling DHCP from it? Or are you configuring your workstation with a fixed IP address?

Firmware on the router current?

Maybe disable the SPI on the router just for testing purposes (I think that router has SPI..a slightly more advanced type of firewall)

Thanks YeOS for your input....

I had to disable gaming mode on my router. Didn't know I had a gaming mode, it was put in with the last firmware update. I also don't know what gaming mode does. (the description is a bit vague on their website)

Bottom line....anyone with Dlink routers and problems with Battlefield 2 - Disable gaming mode.
