I wa just reading some stuff on Kansas and some of these other states that are in a hoopla abut teaching evolution and was curious what y'all think about evolution.

I don't see how anyone can argue against evolution. But I do see how people could argue about the beginnings of life all day long.

Damn Speedy, I hope your not that quick in bed! :p

Allthough I pretty much agree with what you say, I don't think that is really true in reality. For fundamentalists it would be god doing it and not evolution.

So I guess I am asking about the developement of life on this planet

I forgot I what my sig was, I guess it is not really the best for this poll ;)

I have been changing it often enough I don't really think about it when I am posting stuff.

I am glad you got a kick out of those though

Here are a few more for ya

"I'm still an atheist, thank God" Luis Bunuel

"And God said, "The only people I like are atheists, because they play hard to get" Lotus Weinstock

"I think the whole concept of monotheism is a gift from the gods." Emo Phiips

"Men reach their sexual peak at 18, women reach theirs at 35. Do you think God is playing a practical joke?" Rita Rudner

"There is nothing written in the Bible- Old or New Testament- that says, "If you beleive in Me, you ain't going to have no troubles." Ray Charles

"Forgive, O Lord my little jokes on thee,
And I'll forgive Thy great big joke on me." Robert Frost

"I do not feel obliged to beleive that the same God who had endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use" Galileo Galilei

"I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. I just wish he didn't trust me so much" Mother Teresa

"If there is a supeme being, he's crazy" Marlene Dietrich

I hope no one is too offended by those, if so let me know. I figure there are some there for the atheists and some for the Christians

The discussion really doesn't have to turn into a religious bashing thread.

My personal views are, that both science AND religion can co-exist. I do believe that Galileo had that view also as well as Einstein. That's good enough for me, and suits my thoughts on both subject matters.

If we evolved from apes, then why are there still apes? If you say I'm a talking monkey, then that's what I am, but no, I don't buy into the evolution theory.

I'm not real sure about evolution, though it makes sense. I can sure as shinola tell you that with an overwhelming abundance of confidence that the manmade concept of stringing together the ages of the prophets to determine the age of the universe is a bunch of horsepuckey. Its amazing how the bible beaters are strict intrepretationists, until it comes to something they want.

The Book of Matthew on public prayer:
And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

This question and others in this thread have been answered previously.

The mutation(s) that help(s) differentiate and diverge a parent into a sibling species does not cause the elimination of either. If a species fails (become extinct), it is the lack of tools to survive in their particular environment, call it natural selection.

Truth to tell, the only reason why their are still apes is that a number of conscientious humans sought to protect them. If we chose to do so, there are few species that would surivive, if we made an effort to eliminate them.

There is also the point they have found a few species of hominids that did not survive through the ages.

Some were related ancestors to humans and some were not.

We did not evolve from the Apes. We have a common ancestor from which we evolved into separate species. That is why we share our DNA with Chimps!!!! Common ancestor.

We share roughly 98% of the same DNA as the chimpanzee. Whatever species diverged from simian to protohominid, it would have most likely be characterized as an ape.

I am certain a Google search will yield voluminous information.

Maybe this will help you too.

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/evolution/libra ... cat02.html

Excerpt:
Where We Came From

1. Did we evolve from monkeys?

Humans did not evolve from monkeys. Humans are more closely related to modern apes than to monkeys, but we didn't evolve from apes, either. Humans share a common ancestor with modern African apes, like gorillas and chimpanzees. Scientists believe this common ancestor existed
5 to 8 million years ago. Shortly thereafter, the species diverged into two separate lineages.
One of these lineages ultimately evolved into gorillas and chimps, and the other evolved into early human ancestors called hominids.
