Stopping data miners etc.

Post by in2deep »

I run AdAware SE recently upgraded to 1.06 pretty much every day. It always finds a few of these "dataminers" and I routinely allow it to delete them.

So the other day I was being nosey and browsing some of the options in IE and under Tools->Internet Options->Privacy->Sites, I found I could block cookies being set by named sites. So I added one that AdAware often flags, (bluestreak.com), and ran for a day. Next time I ran AdAware, it was not on the list, so I added others. Some days now, after a days browsing, AdAware is reporting "Nothing found".

Is there a down side to what I am doing here - it seems to be blocking these things without third party software? I haven't noticed anything not working or behaving differently.
