Post by dcyphure »

i have 4 partitions, xp/games/applications which is where i installl all 3rd party programs..etc

i just need to know is there anyway i could do clean (format) reinstall xp on C: and still have all my games and apps work without reinstalling them all? apparantly they dont work after reinstall cuz its not in the registry maybe? so could i somehow back up registry, save it then reapply would it all work or is there someother way?

To put it mildly, NOPE!

never a good idea to install apps to apartition other than same one as the os. use other partitions for storage for downloads, install setup pgms, backups, music etc.

Then use Norton Ghost or similar app to image the c:\ drive and all installed pgms and save it to other partition or dvdr/cdr. Then your "re-install" consists of a 10 minute job of restoring the drive image of c:\.
No one has any right to force data on you
and command you to believe it or else.
If it is not true for you, it isn't true.

Besides the registry entries the installer creates, it also copies necessary dependent files into your various system directories, and with many newer applications, besides creating the program files directory, also other directories/files into Docs and Settings.

i know where all my programs are associated to, however i did find a way to do it and it was right in front of me the whole time, system suite 5 has a tool that creates backups of installed programs and all registry and files associated with that program, i burned the backups to cd then after i installed systyemsuite it restored just as i left them, that saves me tons of time however saving my games was a bit too large, the ones i have installed only have registry entries so i'll try saving it somehow and see if that works next time

i like to keep everything seperate cuz i have less problems that way and windows seems faster

now for next time i just need to find out how to save my activation, i did it once, saved that wpa file but when i restored it windows still bugged me to activate, not sure what i did wrong
