2006 Hummer H3

Post by minir »

Hi to All

Nothing Like a Little Hummer Eh! :)

Then Again; Maybe Not!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Can the new H3 live up to the larger-than-life Hummer image? Michael La Fave finds the H3 is a good value and offers "unparallelled off-road capability in a manageable package with truly premium interior execution." But at or approaching highway speeds "there is too little power to pass with confidence and prolonged high-speed cruising is hard work."
Hi Larry,
the hummers are functional vehicles I suppose and look cool,
but IMO the auto companies are designing in the wrong direction with these types of vehicles considering crude oil prices and pollution levels,
and parking spots labeled "compact" LOL
They arent tough is my problem with them, real hummers are die hard and invincible, ive seen several videos of guys breaking axles trying to offroad with the civilian versions. I like how they look though.
thats just it, they are not functional...they are built to drive in the city by a soccer mom and thats about it...i have watched numerous vids of H2's breaking under normal offroad conditions. to be honest, if ya gotta have one get an H1...straight from the US Gubment those are built to last and perform.
Every normal man must be tempted at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.
I often wonder if the voices in my head ever get frustrated because I'm just too damn lazy to climb that clock tower.
I was under the impression that the H3 was built on the Tahoe platform.
I want to learn more and more to see as beautiful what is necessary in things; then I shall be one of those who make things beautiful. Amor fati: let that be my love henceforth! I do not want to wage war against what is ugly. I do not want to accuse; I do not even want to accuse those who accuse. Looking away shall be my only negation. And all in all and on the whole: some day I wish to be only a Yes-sayer.
yes,thats a valid point,
I guess I meant camping/towing/fishing trips/cargo space/etc/etc funtionality,I have an Xterra and look at it that way,I use mine for that stuff,
I was'nt really looking at the H2 & H3 hummers as real offroad vehicles.
If so, one is to wonder how reliable be these expensive trucks.
Hi Bastid, nepenthe, Dan, YARDofSTUF & Blisster
--
In all honesty Fellas i cannot say what their reliability is for Rough Going?
They are to my knowledge built on a GM Chassis, though modified.
Their Big Brother is the one for Off road work imho. There are many used by Bell Telephone & Hydro here for that type of thing. Like all Vehicles of that sort they require a lot of maintenance and tender loving care to keep going.
Military Vehicles for all their toughness go through their fair share of Parts.
The Hummer has been a success with people based more on image than anything else. After all what sane person is going to take an expensive vehicle and subject it to the rigours of Offroading, while still making Monthly Payments? Certainly not i.
A used Jeep is ideal for that, or a several year old domestic SUV, something you don't care about dinging.
With Fuel costs escalating i see more and more Wagons filling the void, as people re-think SUV ownership.
Thanks Guys and do have a grand day :)
As I understand it, the latest wave of machismo is going toward larger pickup trucks. sigh....
Good thing it has them MASSIVE front and rear tow hooks, so the Jeeps have somewhere to hook onto to get the damn things unstuck, or all the off road trails would be plugged with them going nowhere. and with a 5 cylinder, good thing its too big for underground parking, or you would have to use low range to have a hope of getting up the ramps.
Hi ya nepenthe & Chris
nepenthe
Let us Pray that the average Joe & Jane come to their senses soon. A Wagon makes more sense for most people and is much better for City driving.
--
Chris
i agree. A Jeep is far better suited in manuverability and cost, for Off roading imho.
I honestly think that these behemoths will die out before too much longer, as fuel costs escalate.
Thanks Guys, have a great evening :)
$47k full load?
Wow I thought the H2's were in the 80-100k range.
I guess we'll start seeing a lot more of these around soon. I already see atleast one hummer per day. (on the road :) that is.)
It's nice to hear that GM is stepping up their quality control. Hope they extend it to their other vehicles.
As for the gas, I suppose the people that can afford the truck don't really worry about the price of gas that much.
The EPA does not require manufacturers to report/test gas mileage for vehicles over 8,500lbs.
'lovely'
Why don't you have ratings for large pickup Trucks and SUVs
Vans, pickup trucks, and sport utility vehicles (SUVs) weighing more than 8,500 pounds gross vehicle weight are classified as heavy-duty vehicle. Fuel economy regulations do not apply to these vehicles, so they are not tested and fuel economy labels are not posted in their windows.
btw, I've always thought the Hummers were fugly :D
Hi SRF01 & BaLa
SRF01
Your no doubt right, about those that can...do. Still to me their mileage certainly won't help their offroad ability unless they're towing a Tanker behind them :D
--
BaLa
No mileage given, but rest assured its not good. Shaped like a Brick, heavy and underpowered, don't expect much in that regard.
Thanks Guys, Have a lovely day :)
Too big, when the rest of the "normal" drivers have to pull off the road to get out of the way, or swerve towards the center of the road to pass an H that parallel parked but yet it still sticking halfway out to the yellow lines...there's a problem.
Hi YeOldeStonecat
I watched a TV show called 5th Gear awhile back and they drove the Big Hummer through parts of England :rotfl:
Cars had to pull up on the sidewalk to allow it to get by on some streets and it had to backup and go ahead to round a couple of corners.
It really was ridiculous. To the British a Range Rover is considered huge by most and the good old Subaru Wagon adequate for most farmers.
Size does matter :D
Thanks and have a fun day :)
