telemarketing.... free speech, or no?

Post by Faust »

yes or no?

in my opinion, ^#^%#@^%$%$@ no!

SPAM and telemarketers claim their freedom of speech is being violated by some of the new solicitation laws.

BAH~!

to reach my phone, you will need to surpass the boundries of my personal zone... my property. if i am walking down a street by a pay phone and it rings and i pick it up, then OK. but i toss telemarketers in the same catagory as peeping toms. they are invading our pricacy, plain and simple.

I say they rank up there with the church people who always want to come to my door and preach. It wouldnt be so bad if you said no thanks and they left, nooooo, they have to keep talking after I close my door and piss me off. Then I have to open the door and say "WHO IS IT" to my rottie and she goes running to the door barking like mad!!! :D That was what happened last time and I also had a no soliciting of any kind sign on my door. Deffinatly an invasion of privacy faust. People like that are deffinatly scum.

Hi Faust

I concur with all you've stated.

Telemarketers and Spammers are Scum imho.

I had a run in with a Free Paper that was constantly thrown in my driveway. i asked them to stop delivering it as it was a pain in the butt picking it up and also if i went away it was an absolute indicator of my not being home, due to the build up of unclaimed Papers.

They explained to me that they had every right to do so just like my Local Paper.

I strongly suggested that i had a contract with my local Paper and it was my choice to do so. I also told them i could cut it off if i was going away for a bit.

He said they do not have Contracts. I suggested that the very fact i paid for its Delivery was a Contract.

I ended up sending them a Lawyers Letter telling them they would be Billed at $10 Dollars each time for Paper Removal. They stopped immediately.

Your Home is your Castle and place of respite. They have no right to impinge on that imho.

Just because one has the freedom of speech does not mean a person should be forced to listen to it.

You are free to speak, and people are free to ignore or listen to it if they choose so.

I think it should be open season on telemarketers and spammers and door to door types.
Should be able to shoot them on sight.

I got rid of television in the house because of commercials, I listen to pre recorded music, not the radio because of commercials
If I wanted religion, I'd go to church, I don't need it pushed on me at my door. And I have the phone set to no rings, Its there if i need it to call someone, but I don't want to hear it ring.
I also add any spam mail that gets into my inbox to my ISP's Spam site and then its gone too.
Way I look at it, if I want something, I'll go to the store and get it.
If you have to push it on me, I don't need it.

Our area is having a lot of trouble with some telemarketing company dialing out from texas. It's always the same automated message claiming i've won a free trip.
They constantly call my home and even my cell. They also filled all 50 lines at my work one day. People thought our pbx was pooched when they saw every line lit up.
I'm sure nightowl has gotten a few calls from them as well.

Free speech....hmmm. Dunno if I can make the leap that it also applies to phone service. I mean, phone costs money and not everyone has one.

Maybe....if the telemarketers were given a special ring that you could diable and not have to listen too...that would be acceptable. That way if ya wanna listen to em, you do and if you don't wanna hear the phone ring, you don't hear the phone ring.

I just tell the telemarketers that if they wanna continue our conversation it will cost them $4.99 a minute and then ask them for their name and address ..... :D

...works like a charm .. I can even print invoices .. sent one out to this Town and Country Mortgage place in California once ... got a letter back saying they would remove me from their marketing lists ....after i sent them a bill for $19.96.

Hey Ace, isnt it illegal if youve got a no soliciting sign on your door for them to keep coming? Did you inform them if they can read? We dont get many telemarketing calls due to the donotcall list (it actually has worked pretty well) but there is this one "home improvement" buisness that about once a year comes to our neighboorhood and is actually quite forceful and rude. Last year the guy came and said "no offense but" about our windows on the house, I just laughed. He then wanted all our information and thats when I told him to leave. He just stood there when I shut the door. Damn idiot. THIS year (like a week ago) a different guy from the same place came while I was getting ready to walk the kids. He walked up and said "nice day for a walk eh? I was just noticing, no offense, that youve got the older siding on the house..." me having my children there I wasnt going to do what I would have done because I dont want them to see me mad. I calmly just sat there for alittle bit letting him talk, then calmly ignored him and said "come on kids lets go", while walking away he said "make sure to give us a call!". What nerve these idiots have, if I hadnt had my children there I would have told the guy "I suggest you get the **** off my property and your company never comes back, you think you can walk over here and insult peoples homes?" or something to that effect.

:rotfl: Can you believe that though? They think by insulting you they will make a sale or something, this second guy said that and it was very hard to hold back for my children but I did. I wanted to stomp the **** out of him.
