from what I have read it used to be bad, but now seems to be legit.

Note on eAcceleration Stop-Sign: eAcceleration's Stop-Sign anti-malware scanner was listed on this page primarily because of the company's history of employing deceptive advertising and drive-by-downloads (1, 2, 3, 4). The company was also known for removing and/or disabling competing apps. These objectionable business practices were employed primarily during the years 2002-2003.

Sometime during 2004 the company underwent reorganization. Not only have the worst of the company's download and installation practices been halted, but the company has completely overhauled its stub installer application, giving users much more control over the software modules to be installed on their systems (1, 2).

While testing indicates that the "threat scanner" is still slow and has occasional problems with false positives -- in large part because of the use of heuristics, which cannot be turned off by the user -- we can no longer classify this application as "rogue/suspect." Nonetheless, this anti-malware application -- at least in its current state -- cannot be recommended, given the many excellent competing anti-virus, anti-trojan, and anti-spyware applications that are available (some for free).

Brutal software, stay far faaaar away from it. Malware infested.

Microsoft Antispyware is excellent, auto updates, auto scans, very good advanced tools. Plus it's free.

Adaware, Spybot Search and Destroy, and Spyware Blaster are good free utilities. Spyware Blaster does not remove issues, just helps to prevent them from installing in the first place. Like a condom for your web browser.

Spysweeper is also a great product, 30 day free trial, pay for full time use.

From all that I've read Microsoft Antispyware is Number 2 only behind Counterspy which is Not free. So Microsoft would be an excellent choice! :thumb:

In the writeup I read in PCWorld a month or two ago, Microsoft Antispyware even beat that. It wasn't released in time for the whole article to include it, so Sunbelts Counterspy had won the article...but they got their hands on Microsoft Antispyware before going to press, did a sidebar article on it throwing the same test at it, and it beat CS.

Yeah that's the web version I guess. The full article magazine, Counterspy did something like 85%, Microsoft pulled a 91%.

Keep in mind that spyware first must be found, then how to cure, clean and prevent.
Programs work differently on different platforms, etc., and the updates are critical...
This program may catch what is out this month, however new malware is arriving all of the time... :)

Unlike spyware, most virus definitions do not even pertain to actual virus loose on the net. The antivirus researchers "invent" what could potentially become a real virus, before it does, and thus stop it before it has a chance... Malware, on the other hand, has a much broader range with potentially unlimited resources, therefore, it is almost impossible, at least at this time, to make the aforementioned preventions that we have with virus...

I have found, for malware, a combination is best... I use:
MS antispyware
Spyware Blaster
Spybot Search & Destroy
Adaware
as cleaner and preventers, however, sometimes I will use Spysweeper on an infestation...

However, nothing can replace knowledge... ;)

iBuena suerte! Que pasa bien...
