Can this be implemented? or does it seem like a good idea?

After reading about Tony and Norm's Microsoft MVP posts, I think it would be cool to have a list of everyone's certifications or qualifications, as a way to measure a person's abilities I guess.

http://www.experts-exchange.com/

is where i got the idea, how they have their list of rankings and points and all that, but I think either have just a basic list of peoples name with whatever certications or info they provide about their knowledge.

this could just be a webpage, listed in the main page of the forum directory..."Speedguide Techs" or "Certified SG Member List" name it whatever seems appropriate of course, as a guideline so that new people or even people like me, it would be helpful and interesting to see who has what, so the new people would know that their answers people post are trustworthy.

Also maybe I think this info could be put in a person's profile or whatever, so that it would show up just like below the Location field.

I have noticed people put info in their sigs, but I think this would be better to have an "official" list, in the profile or as a seperate webpage database, also the signatures, some people have them turned off, so this would help with that if people dont have sigs enabled.

Just an idea... :)

I wouldn't evaluate people's answers based on tehir certs. I've interviewed several people that couldn't do basic things who happened to be MCSE. I am sure that other vendors have the same 'paper tiger' issue. I always judge by length and type of work experience, personally.

I have a friend who has no certs at all,and could run circles around most.

he has run a quite successul computer/networking business for a long time.

I think certs are cool,(they show a certain amount of commitment)but as real life hands on,

I don't think they really mean alot.
