My machine is making a very loud screetching sound. Where should I start? I have a pent 4.

If ya rule out the fans next step would be the HDs.

It seems to be a very small metal fan directly on one of my cards. Looks all full of dirt. Thanks! Being made of metal is what made it sound like a cd being scratched. :thumb:

sounds like the vidcard. i would bet the bearing is shot.

the only ray of hope is to clean that fan and lube it with a non-penetrating oil (do not use 3-in-1, WD-40, etc). sewing machine oil should be light enough.

at best it'll be a temp fix. you should either get a new fan or a new card at some point. if that fan dies, more than likely the GPU will fry.
