You are running out of letters, Brent

I want to learn more and more to see as beautiful what is necessary in things; then I shall be one of those who make things beautiful. Amor fati: let that be my love henceforth! I do not want to wage war against what is ugly. I do not want to accuse; I do not even want to accuse those who accuse. Looking away shall be my only negation. And all in all and on the whole: some day I wish to be only a Yes-sayer.

I hear you.

While browsing Best Buy after work, I spotted a might stack of 300GB Maxtors with 16MB buffers..... I may have stained them slightly, though not beyond repair.

here are the drives labeled for what they are for

Image

when you go to lan parties you collect a lot of stuff, last year at Quakecon I gathered 500GB of stuff, now of course i weed through that and don't always keep it all, still, it adds up over time

as you can imagine what takes up the most space is video stuff, TV Series, Anime Series, etc... for example Babylon 5, that whole series is taking up 60.3GB of space, just for it, so it adds up quickly as you can imagine

one large drive aint gonna be enough, i'm going to need several large drives, in the order of about 6x 400GB drives, that is ultimately what i want

but of course they aren't cheap either

i want all my stuff to be accessible on the network, it is a file server afterall, so all i have to do is click my shortcut on my desktop to each drive and have instant access to what i need

also, i don't have a dvd burner, but if i did i'd only use it for backup, i'd still want instant access to eveything over the network, 'tis the reason why i built the file server and my gigabit network in the first place

Some people need the instant/changeable space. A lady I built a home LAN for, she does semi-professional video editing on the side. She has two towers, each with 4x 250 gig drives. So each tower has almost a tera. When working on several projects at the same time, you just want that instant access to large space.

Not 100% but looks like... Must be a super duper one tho surely..... 22 drives and a mobo with at least 5 fans plus the one (maybe 2 in the PSU) and all the PCI>ATA controllers!!

Must be a decent one....I would hope!?!?!?!

Ever consider consolidating and putting them on bigger drives? I have 4 drives and am almost up to you:

- (1) 300GB
- (1) 250GB
- (2) 80GB

For all the audio files I have I'm going to have about a TB...then I'll need a TB of back-up for it. There aren't any TB hard drives available yet, are there? I know there's the LaCie external but what about internals?
