Keep Getting the Blue Screen Error Message

Post by sandralynn4 »

Hi,

For the past three or four weeks, I have been getting the Windows fatal exception message with the blue screen, and I don't know why. I have been getting it just about every day .It reads, " Windows" at the top and then " A fatal exception OE has occurred at 0167:BFF9DFFF . The current application will be terminated ". It goes on to say press any key to continue, etc, etc. I do that , and it will be fine for a couple of minutes, then I get another error message, except this time, in a smaller, white window . It tells me I can click on close or ignore, and ignore never works so I click on "close" . From there my computer crashes or freezes and I always have to manually turn it off. I've had this happen in the past, but only once every few months or so. Now it is happening regularly and it's really annoying ! I have run my anti-virus, checked for spyware with Spy Bot, Ad-aware , and Spy Sweeper , de-fragged, run scan disk. I haven't installed any new software lately . I'm not sure what to do now . I have Windows 98 SE and have cable lite . If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it . Thanks!

PS....Just adding something on ... I went to PC Pitstop and it gave me a couple of things on the hardware list that have error codes. Can anyone tell me what these devices are? Everything under Device Manager seems to be working okay, but PC Pitstop gave me error codes (#22) for these two things:

System (Standard system devices) IRQ Holder for PCI Steering (22 )
System (Standard system devices) IRQ Holder for PCI Steering (22 )

I don't know if this is at all related to my Fatal Exception messages or not.And I received another one of those a few minutes ago, except it wasn't the same one. This time it was 0028: C176EA7A in VXDCWCDSND (01)+0000B88A .... sigh . I looked up the first one, and was told to adjust my hardware excellerations, so I did that. It also mentioned that it could be bad memory. I installed new memory several months ago and have never had a problem. I'm confused !

Norm will be able to help you the most with Windows 98.

What application are you using when this happens?
