PC reboot when it wants...

Well I recently built my PC (details in sig) up using some components from my old PC (Ram, DVD/HD drives and video card.) So I’m using my new PC surfing the net and a error message comes up Mozilla has encountered an error and will shutdown, since then (1 week ago) it’s done this 60-80 times (also does this with IE6 and Firefox), and every so often I get a BSoD so I write down the numbers (e.g. 0x0000008e) and I check on the net and I find out that the RAM configuration is incompatible with Windows XP. So I tell my mate and he lent me one of his Corsair 512MB, DDR500/PC4000 and its fine for two days not one BSoD none of the browsers get errors.

So is it because my ram is PC2700 and my CPU is 3000+ because I have no clue what the 3000+ meant on the CPU.

I would guess that maybe ur 3000+ is a 200mhz fsb chip adn that the 2700 ram can't run that. Do u happen to know what ur fsb?

I've got EasyTune4 up and it says system bus 200mhz. is that it.

yes. if i do recall, PC2700 is 166MHz/333MHz frequency. you're trying to run it at 200MHz/400MHz, and spontanious reboots are very very common when RAM is being pushed too far.

I'm not too savy with the Gigabyte K8VT800 Pro. Does it allow you to fool with your memory timings? If so, try relaxing them a bit.

Faust is probably right. Try to up the Ram voltage. Also see the Event Viewer in the administrative tool. That will also give u more info on whats wrong

I'm not too savy with the Gigabyte K8VT800 Pro. Does it allow you to fool with your memory timings? If so, try relaxing them a bit.

This is not a pic of mine but i do have this in my bios. How would i do that then.

you need the pc3200 RAM for stability....the RAM you have is probably too stressed out running at the faster speeds...your overclocking the RAM while the CPU runs at stock speed.

also the 3000+ is the speed of the processor....rated as 3000+ to be compared with other 3.Ghz processors...but the actual clock speed is 2.1Ghz..

Check ur bios to see if there is a setting to run the ram at a % like 60/70/80% that way u can have your fsb at 200 and ur ram at 166.

You're RAM speed is correct, 166...Hmm...Try changing the RAM voltage up a little. Other than that, maybe try and change the CAS to 3, see if that helps. I'm not suspecting it's the ram, though...

Taking the RAM from an old system, and installing into a new, different motherboard, will always open up the door to potential problems.

Tis best to follow the advice of "Always get RAM that is tested on, and approved 100% compatible to work on your motherboard".

Go to a website like Crucial.com
Run through the memory selection utility, select your mobo brand, your mobo model...and you are shown a list of their memory part numbers guaranteed to be compatible with your motherboard. It's not just the speed and parity that's different in memory. Crucial might have 50 different types of PC3200 RAM...not all are equal nor will all run in any system. You have to get ones compatible with your system.

what do these number mean 2.5-4-4-8. Now I know what the 2.5 is the CAS latency but what are the rest.
