What PCI firewire card should i get?

Post by rclayton17 »

Hey everyone,

My dad bought a digital videocamera and now we need a pci firewire card.

I have a P3 866 with 256mb of ram. The motherboard is an ABIT vt6x4 (pretty old now :) ). I have win 98se

I was thinking that we might as well get a card that also has usb 2.0 just for the future... thats a good idea right?

Please help me choose a good card.

Dunno about the brand but I don't think you're gonna see much difference in one brand to another with this type of interface.

As I recall, the Fireconnect 4300 comes with the cable to connect to most camcorders. Go to Circuit Shltty and they'll charge you $30 for just the cable by itself, whereas the 4300 has the card and the cable together for $40. If you don't need the cable then maybe the newegg.com unit in Kyler's post is the way to go.

what about a good cable?

My dad had also bought a 6 foot Belkin firepath cable (4pin-6pin) cable from fry's for 24.99.

He said he could return it. Do you just recommend that i also order a cable from newegg and return the belkin cable? Which cable should i get from newegg?

Also, since my computer is old, I dont think I have pci 2.2. That SYBA card says its pci 2.2 compliant. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDe ... 002&depa=1

Would it work in my computer's pci slot?

I'm almost positive that is the standard PCI.
