ok, well i have a p3 667mhz processor, and earlier this morning i went into the bios and changed a few things. i changed the front side bus speed to 150, (originally from 133) actually, thats only 1 thing, not a few. the multiplier was 5, so i kept that the same. so now my processor speed is 750, do you think i need any more cooling in there? is this ok the way i did it? cause i dunno anything bout overclocking. so please reply and lemme know, thanks.
go HERE and get sisoft sandra, runt the install, reboot and run the mainboard info option from the proggy. scroll down bout 3/4 of the way and it will show your cpu temp. (assuming you have a probe) If it is below 45-50C then you should be ok.
well for my opinion, for sure get some fancier cpu cooling,I am not overclocked on my three boxes but I don't think you can have too much cooling.no overclocking here but I have tons of fans in my cases anyway.
should look like this at worst. I have cranked my voltage up a bit to make temps higher for demonstration purposes. Hopefully yours will be lower. Every 10 degrees farenheit lower you keep your cpu is supposed to extend its life 2x.
btw, i put the fsb to 142 so now the processor is at 710. and the sdram clock is at 106mhz (normally 100) , the temp dropped like 10+ degrees for both, so i think i should stay where im at.
yea its the stock fan, i didnt change it. i just want the system to run a tad faster for a couple months before i get my new one, so this little bump doesnt even make that much of a difference in speed so it doesnt really matter all that much anyway.
It is wise to throw in extra fan. I have PII 400 and been running it at 450 MHz day and night for about six months without any problems. As long as u got cooling fans you should be fine.
