sound "hardware problem" message Wxp

Post by joey »

running w XP with sound card CMI783. from time to time i am getting blue screen with a message " hardware problem, call your vendor" then i have to power down. i found out that i dont get this problem when the sound card is out. i am getting this problem more often when i use sound or play clips with sound. replaced s. card didnt solve the prob. reinstall drivers & driver update still no good. device menager says "device is working properly. switched pci slot, the same. appreciate your help. thank you in advance.

Sounds like a junky sound driver. When you get that BSOD (Blue Screen of Death), what else does it say? It should have something like filename.dll or filename.drv in there. Don't worry about the "contact your hardware vendor", all driver crash messages say that.
