best game i have played in many years, the whole experiance is very well done.

i just got the gravity gun not too long ago, very cool weapon.

i like this better than doom 3, and i thought that was pretty a damm good game as well.

Yes!
I'm about 45 minutes into it, and I'll say I think it is on track for matching HL1 in gameplay. Which is good, because I still hold Half Life 1 as the best single player experience I've ever had.

Well if it feels like HL1 i'll probably hold off till the game is cheaper. I was hoping they would have a demo around.

you kidding me? What if your cable connection goes down? You cannot even play single player?

What about multiplayer...let me guess you can only play on their servers?

I just hope other publishers don't follow this same kind of madness..

I hope you can play without running Steam if you purchase the CD. While the option of having Steam is kinda cool...download most of the game ahead of time, download the rest upon release, having to have Steam running to play the game is IMO not good. The sucker takes up 40 megs of system RAM just sitting there doing nothing in your systray.

you can play offline, you just need to have your user name and password saved then unplug your internet and then connect to steam.

Although this is without a doubt the most annoying game ever to start finally playing...it was worth a bit of extra effort....gameplay is great, not board with it yet. I think this is a better game than doom3 gameplay wise...though i think the d3 engine might be better graphics wise.

well, seeing as how 80,000 people downloaded and played Doom3 BEFORE its official release, i really don't blame any game publishers or creators for initiating whatever sort of protection they think will help. We the users have created this problem in the first palce.

Personally I liked Doom 3 a little better for the pure scariness aspect, but as far as gameplay, HL2 is a little better since they spice it up with puzzles and make you think. Overall, very good game so far.

I did the steam download this morning and haven't gotten into the game too far. What I see I like. I wonder if a person can still get the CD version (using the coupon that can with the ATI cards) in addition to downloading it.

Anyone know ?

Once you have it activated on Steam, any install should work whether it be from download or disc.

Just fill in the information on the ATI site and mail them the required info and they will send you the game minus $10 US dollars for the shipping and handling :D

ATI HalfLife 2 offer! Greatest game ever :D

I have not had any problems with Steam. Whats the big deal, click on the icon and go. If it helps curve piracy then all the power too them.

Dang...my box, and receipt....long gone over a year ago. I figured the coupon that came with my ATI card would be all I needed.

And it is all you need Cat, all you have to do is photocopy the video card showing the serial number (which sucks cause you have to take your comp apart) and a photocopy of your activation key and then tell ATI you received the card as a gift and therefore, you have no receipt. They will still send you the game.

I did the same thing, I threw everything away because the details of claiming the prize were not in place yet and the game was delayed for almost a year after the promotion.

Or you can call them at this number: 1-866-223-4955

I didn't find Ravenholm all that scary personally. Few times it made me jump but not quite Doom 3 scariness yet. :thumb:

Perhaps, but why are so few of us (and by us I mean those who actually pay for their games, movies, etc.) actually taking an active role in stopping the problem?

Sure, you or I may purchase our software, but there's a damn good chance a roommate/coworker/friend is grabbing something new off BitTorrent right now. And how many of us ignore, encourage, or even participate in that? Piracy is a problem, and until the "gamers" who do this get it through their heads that they're killing the industry that they supposedly enjoy the most, we're going to keep sliding down this slope.

In the end, we end up with new draconian copyright laws and silly copy-control measures that punish the legitimate users more than they stem the flow piracy.

For the record, Steam is just one of a few reasons why I'm in no rush to jump onto HL2, despite being a big fan of the first one.

From what I can tell, you can't do that, but I can't say for sure. You might be able to copy all the files to your home puter and install steam and it might work.

I talked to ATI today, having previously sent in all my paperwork for the CD's once HL2 was released. They took my credit card # and said it would ship in 6-8 weeks. Their website says you can get it in 2-3 weeks regular delivery or express sooner for $ 15 shipping. The lady I talked to said the website is wrong. The only option is $ 10 and the 6-8 week delivery. (unless you want to go to the store and pay $ 50).

I'll probably be done playing it by the time my CD's get here.......

I'm pissed. I built my computer for HL2 and Doom 3. Doom 3, Farcry...etc run great on max settings. My fps on HL2 are ok, but the sound crackles. Everyone with a soundblaster card seems to have this problem. CS-Source runs like garbage. I will be getting 70 fps, shoot a can, and it will jerk and studder around while rolling down a hill, while I am still getting 70 fps. I throw a gernade and 50% of the time its smooth, and the other 50% it jerks as it flys through the air, and once again while I am getting decent fps. Fps seems to drop around 40 when I look at my team mates.

My system (see sig) runs it like a dream. I'm using a sound blaster and Logitech Z-640s, no problems and GREAT sound quality! Haven't looked at my FPS but it's running in all high settings (not counting AA) with absolutly no glitching or lag at all. Very enjoyable for people with entry level gaming rigs all the way to the top end.

Perhaps try reinstalling the game, or your video/sound drivers. Also check motherboard drivers and maybe even a fresh windows install? Also I've found that I had the same exact sound crackling problem when I would overclock to high on my old A7N8X Deluxe. Are you overclocking? Do you have your PCI/AGP clocks locked? Just a few things to think about...

Are the ATI/Half-Life 2 Bundles still available anywhere? I could use the ALL-IN-WONDER 9600 PRO card in my multimedia PC.
