When Im not using the computer, should I turn my LCD off to save the backlight, or leave it on and let windows put it to standby?

I let windows shut my LCD and all my monitors off after 15 minutes,works fine IMO.

I have all power management on all my computers disabled, I "lock workstation" when I leave, and power off the monitor.

I run my main pc which has a LCD monitor,and I run it 24/7 and I have had the monitor for about 8 months and I use windows power management to turn it of after 15 minutes and I have'nt seen any adverse effects yet.

I have done that since I bought my first computer. No bad effects as of yet. PLUS I have to keep FAH running

It doesn't really matter.

If you were using a CRT they consume a lot of power, and refresh constantly, turning of a CRT makes sense to save power and the life of it.

However an LCD is different, they don't consume as much power. You can switch it off, or leave it on, or put it in standby, or whatever, its all personal preference.

So what should you do?

I have power management set to 15 minutes for my CRT. If I know I am going to be away from my PC for a while I turn my CRT off.

I've had my comp running mostly 24/7 for the last year or so.. on a LCD the screen saver kicks in till I knock it off which is day in and day out.. I haven't had any issues with it so far..however the regular CRT's now I recommend a good cleaning of it everyso often.. mostly if you have alot of dust in the air or animals near it alot mostly cats! LOL see it has a larger opening in the back for dust to settle... same with LCD's just blow them out with air... otherwise it will start arcing and could go bad as I've had one in the past doo..but for the LCD no problems works great 24/7.

Yes, at home. Have a Small Biz Server domain at home, my server, and my workstation, are always locked when I'm not there. Don't want anyone (wife 'n kid) touching my rigs when I'm not home, they have their own to use.

I just want the backlight to last does the backlight last longer than CRTs? Arent LCD backlights rated for 50,000 Hours until half brightness point on an LCD, while CRTs have 25,000 Hours until half brightness point?
