and im gonna get new SHAW High speed EXTREME internet 5mbit for 20bucks more

dude you shouldnt have to.. they say you can run it on 56K if you really want.. any broadband connection that has been tweaked will be just fine!

Just keep in mind ADSL or DSl is a Direct Line to you.. As to where Cable is shared Between many Customers So Pings (Latency) can get up there at peak times Not to mention loss in bandwith

The download is a Boost defiantly But you will most likly see better Latency with DSL Which is overly what you want for gaming

If in your shoes id try out the cable and keep my dsl line on for at least a week Just in case it gos bad

Cable HSI can go Good or Bad Just depends on the quality of the ISP

Uhm I have been playing the beta for a week or so now, and I dont beleive its heavily dependant on net speed. Graphic/CPU power is another issue. I have all the settings maxed out right now and it runs fine. Of course that G-6800 ultra does help out!

I'd not cancel your DSL for at least a month of two. What's nice about DSL, usually "what you see is what you get" all the time. Cable is more likely to fluctuate. Both vary greatly upon whom you are using for your ISP, remember...not all ISPs are created equal. DSL generally tends to be better for gaming, on the average, whereas cable, on the average, tends to be better for fans of downloading stuff. But games really don't rely on throughput rate, it's latency, and generally, even though cable tends to beat DSL in throughput, DSL tends to win in the latency comparison.

My DSL speeds never go down, always just about 1500/128, usually about 134 on the upload. My pings, along with bandwidth, are fairly constant. I have a few friends, however, that have RoadRunner. They complain about their downloads and constantly have worse pings than me. The only complaint I have with my DSL, is the upload isn't too great, but everything that we pay for is deffinitely there, quickly.

dont think i can get sympatico here ...only shaw and telus around
telus is offering for 40 bucks 2.5mbit/640kb ...i just down know ...that high speed extreme seems pretty cool i could download stuffs 3-4x faster (im usually downloading 30-40gb/week) not playing much games and if i play its usually MMORPG only...

YOS if u checked out that link what i posted you can see you can get that 5mbit speed only with their new low latency cable modem ...i just dont know what should i do

The modem isn't the only thing that matters, latency has to do with so many things it's not even funny. But, the point YOSC was making is by nature, and with how the cable infastructure is set up, the pings will generally not be as good as DSL.

well on POE i was getting around 95ms ....and when i was playing UT2k4 my ping was one of the worst around 120ms when the rest of the people had 40-80ms
