Question about IE security levels and damn cookies

Post by Humboldt »

Greetings all, I have a question about changing the security levels on IE. Normally I have the cookies disable, both the stored and the per-session.

Some of the sites I go to need to have cookies enabled to be able to access their "secure" pages. Examples are free email services and my state university online registration.

This means that whenever I want to visit one of these sites I need to go into Tools/Options/Security/Custom level, scroll down and enable them. After I leave the site I need to do everything again to disable them. What a crock of sh*t.

So, my question to you brilliant fellow SG'ers (females included, how to be PC about this one?) is: Is there any way to shorten this process? Should I create a seperate Windows ID and set the IE security for that identity to "cookie enabled" or would that make any difference? Any way to create a shortcut to a customized security level or something? Anything?

you could just auto-accept all cookies and delete the ones you don't NEED
if you don't need/want any cookies that would make it easier, you could just create a batch file to delete all of your cookies....

separate windows id would be our best bet, that way you could avoid cookies when you want, and when you access hsu site all you would have to do is logon w/ your other id.
BTW, what 'security' do you gain by disabling cookies? just curious...

Thanks for the response Loch Nar. You're not that satellite expert are you? Boy, I've heard about you...

Anyone else have any ideas? Otherwise I'll probably go with the new user ID.
