They were stunned that I did that, I was told by the supervisor that I was the first one that ever called him and gave him good news.
Ever since I moved, I've had random loss of sync and a poor picture on my TV. After the storm, it got real bad. The lady that came out and did the initial install said I needed a new drop, put in the service request, but it never did happen.
I had a tree branch fall and break my phone and cable lines. The phone company put in a new line, Cox just spliced the cable line together. I got tired of calling and bitching, so I just dealt with it.
Well this guy comes out and I tell him what I've been putting up with. I showed him the splice, and he also noticed a splitter, up near the fiber, that didn't need to be there.
I had to get back to work, so I left and let him do what ever he needed to do. When I got home my wife told me that he ran a whole new line, he also put a new tap at the fiber end (or what ever it's called) so that the extra splitter wasn't needed anymore. No easy task at my house. He ran the line all the way back to the fiber, which is about 500 feet away, meaning he had to climb up three different poles to get it done. With the squirrels chewing at the line, the splice and the extra splitters, my connection wasn't the best, to say the least.
Turns out.... my and my dad's house, are the only two houses on this fiber node, that have cable internet. I'm supposed to get 4 down and 512 up, never even used to get near that.
Now I'm maxing it out, after running a few different online benchmarks, I'm getting 4 down and a little over 512 up.
Too many people are real quick to call up to bitch, piss and moan, so I figured it was time to let somebody know that this guy worked his ass off getting my connection right. He was a subcontractor, so I told the supervisor to make sure his boss knows he's doing a killer job.
So...I'm just letting y'all know there are some good cable techs out there, even if Indy and wee are complete idiots.
