Please help with Zone Alarm !

Post by sandralynn4 »

Here I am posting with another problem.....lol. Okay..... I was having trouble accessing sites...some of them said my cookies were not enabled, when they actually WERE enabled. I discovered that the problem was fixed when I turned off Zone Alarm. I'd been having problems with it, so tonight I decided to uninstall and reinstall it. Now I can't seem to install it again. I download it and continue on to the install process. I get to the registration part, enter my information, and click "next". That's fine.....then I get to the Licence Agreement. I click "accept" and then click " next", and then it just disappears.I have tried this 5 times in a row, and it keeps happening.Nothing else happens or pops up - it just disappears. I am running Windows 98 SE and IE6.I have AVG anti virus and Ad Aware, if that helps at all. I don't know what to do or what the problem is. Can anyone help? I don't feel safe without a firewall. Are there any other good free ones out there? Thanks !

ZA sucks, ZA is what was blocking your cookies, it's supposed to be a firewall not a cookie monitoring app.

Use Sygate Personal Firewall, it's far better than ZA.

Glad to help, you will love Sygate, it is much easier on resources and your connection.

I had ZA pro 5.1 just instantly hose my system yesterday
out of the blue. It gives me this validation failed vsxml.dll
error and I can't uninstall or install completely,
it's like it's got the Truevector going but I can't see it anywhere. I'm about ready to try Sygate too..

Hmmm..... I had a similar message come up with ZA.....something about a dll file that started with V as well. It just would NOT install again. I like Sygate a lot though...maybe you should try it :)

I don't know but this pisses me off, I just got done making
a slipstreamed sp2 disc so I could do a repair install of XP.
That worked but I still have my problem. I don't mind trying Sygate but I have to fix this first, I don't like hidden
errors/conflicts unresolved. I've cleaned the registry as good as I can of ZoneAlarm/Zonelabs/Truevector but still the error..

Seems Microsoft also recognise the problem.....
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=291793 will give you some info and then a link to a page in ZA that will give you a guide to remove it
ZA was never a problem until MacAfee got his fingers into ZoneLabs and made ZoneAlarm sticky. Since then it's been either Outpost or Sygate for anyone wanting a firewall. Outpost won't be any good as a network firewall unless you get the Pro version. As a single use firewall tho it's great.
